Think this has been speculated for about a week now but I see this evening airlineroute has announced Delta is ending EWR-LHR and LAX-LHR from 5th October 2015.

Reservations are now closed. Interesting times it would seem.

Is the EWR flight the 'new' evening flight they only started in march after VS dropped the day flight?

It is indeed TB. Wonder what will happen now. Having flown a couple of times on DL to LAX I'm not that surprised, both flights had very light loads but still a shame. EWR always seemed an odd choice to me for DL with their mighty hub across the river.

It does seem strange to drop it almost as soon as it started.

Wonder if VS will take the slot back and then try and restart the day flight?

The VS23/24 will, I understand, be operating year-round after all (it had been pulled for three months over the winter).

As for EWR, I assume this is all linked to last week's news that United is pulling out of JFK to concentrate on EWR, swapping slots with DL.

Over on twitter responding to this news this evening a couple of people are suggesting that VS will continue to operate once a day to EWR. So it looks like no immediate plans but I do wonder..... :w

I wonder too Jon.

Given DL's clear influence over VS's route planning, why would VS continue to fly somewhere that DL has few or no connections while they're expanding operations at JFK?

Unless, that is, VS has some significant corporate or freight contracts for EWR. Or just maybe, even in the new world order, they can't bring themselves to axe their original destination ...

Maybe VS have enough of a market at EWR to justify serving both JFK and EWR. Not everyone's final destination is NYC and, for example, if anyone is going to somewhere in New Jersey it's more convenient to use EWR than JFK.

With regards to your first question, the same question could be levied at both MCO and MIA which have connections to the DL network that are better served by other airports in the U.S., though I see DL are starting flights to Brasilia and São Paulo from MCO towards the end of the year.

We are booked on VS4028 EWR to LHR (Virgin operated by Delta) on 14th July.
Looking at the schedules today , after 5th July this flight seems to have disappeared from the list.
Should I be worried?

Just discovered that this flight is no longer a Virgin flight operated by Delta , it's now just Delta flight number DL156!
