DUB airport timing queries

I'm hoping someone can assist.

I'm flying into DUB on a BA mileage ticket - LHR to DUB 1415-1535 prior to then returning back to LHR on what I had scheduled (to allow for contingencies) the returning 1740-1905.

Expedia have just notified me they are changing this flight to the 1615-1730.

I'm only travelling with a handbag as will be staying overnight ini a LGW hotel before catching a flight to LAS the next day. so no worries about luggage.

Is this flight change possible as I'm really worried it's too tight?

I wouldn't risk it, and advise you change you're outbound flight. At 40 minutes it's tight, and if there's any delay on the outbound your plans could go belly up.

At DUB, like at LHR, arriving and departing passengers are segregated so it's not simply a question of walking off one plane into the gate area and walking on to the next one.

You'll have to clear immigration at DUB, go landside, clear security and go back to the gate. I'd definitely rebook your first flight.

(I'd even go as far as saying your original 2 hour connection was tight. BA's DUB flights are often late - I would allow a minimum of 3 hours just in case.)

Thanks. I've checked and there's availability on the earlier flight so will change to that one - it should get me in for 14:00 which should work.

The MUCH ealier one gets me in for 0910 which is far too early for me!

I think (but I stand to be corrected) that if you are checked in, you can transfer airside in T1 which is where the BA flights arrive. I know you certainly could in the days before T2 was built and you can transfer airside between the two terminals as well as in T2 itself, so presumably the same facility is still in T1.

Having said that, I would be concerned about such a tight connection, especially if the outbound is delayed.

I also stand to be corrected, but I seem to recall the DUB flight connections facility, such as it is, is only open in the mornings (presumably meant mainly to assist passengers arriving off overnight long haul flights).

It's accessed by an escalator up from the T1 baggage hall I think, so you still have to clear Irish immigration and DUB security UNLESS you're connecting between two flights at the 200 gates - but BA normally use the 300s.

It's definitely do-able as Dublin airport is quite compact and if BA uses the 300 gates then they are the nearest ones post security. It is the area that all the U.S. Flights used to use before T2 was built.

Just be thankful you aren't using the 100 gates. In the past that was known as the D concourse and the joke was that it stood for Dundalk, a town near the border with NI, as you felt you were walking there, so long was the trek

I've changed the ticket now, which was an Avios ticket anyway. They do charge a change fee of £35 which is mad considering I'd only paid £17.50 for it in the first place! (Plus miles of course which I don't actually factor in).

I've checked and if the worst comes to the worst, there are Aer Lingus flights which I could always pay through the nose for on the day if I can't get this last flight out of DUB at 1615.

Who knows, when the winter flights are scheduled later this years (as I'm not going until Nov), it may change again. Let's hope not.
