I wonder whether any of the knowledgeable folk can assist. I am involved in organizing a school trip, flying Easyjet to Geneva 2 of the students carry epipens. I m getting mixed messages about whether they can be taken through normal check in and security, count as special assistance or what....

Is there anyone who uses an Epipen and has had experience please? Departure will be from LGW or maybe Luton.

Whenever I hear mixed messages on a travel related issue, this forum is where I know I will get accurate advice..

Many thanks

I don't have personal experience, but have you had a read of these:

http://www.london-luton.co.uk/en/faq/10 ... ggage.html

Yes

And Gatwick

http://www.gatwickairport.com/at-the-ai ... rity/faqs/

Any other medical item that you may need during your flight – including insulin and needles, asthma inhalers, EpiPen, angina sprays etc. – can be carried, but only the amount necessary for your trip. The rest should be put in your hold baggage.

http://www.easyjet.com/en/medical-information

It specifically says:

We are unable to guarantee an allergy free environment onboard or in Our partner lounges. If You have any kind of allergy that could result in an anaphylactic reaction You should carry Your medication (e.g. antihistamines, Epi-pen) in Your Hand Baggage.

I would be inclined to fire off an email to them and have the necessary documentation and email for check-in.

The next paragraph on there is a surprise and very welcome if you are a nut allergy sufferer.

Nuts

Please be aware that We sell peanuts onboard. However, if You suffer from anaphylaxis please notify the cabin crew on boarding the aircraft so that the sale of nuts can be prevented on the Flight. We will also request that other passengers do not consume nuts that they have brought with them; however We can not guarantee this.

My wife always carries an epipen for our flights to the USA. We always take a copy of the doctors prescription with the two epipens (1 each way) in the plastic bag with the other liquid items. Handed to the security personnel who always check the prescription. Never been a problem. Never (tempting fate) had to use one during a flight.

Thank you both, I guessed it wasnt too difficult if you plan for it in advance, rather than upon arrival at the airport
