We priced for Vegas May 2016, and we were only offered 3%.... It was 3% less than on-line price though.
We actually ended up going over to the dark side and booking with BA, was slightly cheaper (approx £200) but flight times (connecting flights from Newcastle) were better. Until a domestic flight between Newcastle and Gatwick is re-introduced, I'm afraid Gatwick is out of the question for us, shame as I like Gatwick. Yes I know that Manchester an option but really trying to avoid the 3 hour drive after being on a night flight...
Maybe not relevant, but me and
el missus actually went into a Virgin Holidays store, and they happened to be having a promotion that weekend. Pricing was pretty good - not only on the holiday, but also on all the attraction tickets booked. Ended up saving 10% across the board (and yes, that included a v-room booking made five months later).
I share your pain though - wanted to fly from Glasgow (near) or Newcastle (nice airport), but the price hikes for both were "unpleasant" in the case of the latter and "astronomical" for the former - even the "redcoat" doing the booking was shocked. End of the day, we just resigned ourselves to a 4-5 hour drive down to Manchester (hotel overnight) and then the same back (minus the hotel). Just hope it's better than last time we did Manchester-Florida, came back to blizzards. :o
