Well, holiday over so it was time to return home!!!

Cancun is definitely an experience. We had a drink at Margaritaville as it was close to the gate (right next to) but someone needs to fix the PA system as no one could hear any of the announcements coming from the staff. This in turn meant that it was a mass grouping in front of the gate so the staff had to come out and try and clear a path for the passengers as their seat groupings were called. As we were in the bubble again, we were called fairly early but trying to get through the crowd to get to the door was a nightmare.

The crew were ok, nowhere near as friendly as the flight out, and in the scheme of things the worst I've known on a Virgin flight. The menus were issued, and I knew that there was nothing on there that I would eat. Creole chicken(spicy) Basa Puttanesca (fish) and a veggie option. I know I'm a fussy eater but this is the first time I've not eaten a main meal on a Virgin flight. There is usually a beef dish. When the CC came round with the food, I declined, and he tried again as it seemed unheard of for someone to decline food, and he gave me a strange look. I politely pointed out that there was nothing that I would eat, so I didn't want to waste the food. I had a cheese triangle from my husband. In this instance it wasn't just me who had the problem. My husband eats anything and everything. He took a couple off mouthfuls and said he couldn't eat it as it was terrible. He took his roll out and it was solid. I do appreciate it's difficult to cater a flight, but this was massively below par. My mum gave me her cheese triangle and I kept it as a back up for a long flight. The CC made it feel like it was a real hardship to serve anything.

I got some sleep and woke up for breakfast. I took it and wished I hadn't. The croissant was again rock hard, the orange juice (something I drink a lot of) was disgusting and the final piece was yogurt, which I can't eat but is never usually an issue as I eat the croissant but couldn't in this instance. Thank god for the cheese triangle that I had squirrelled!!!!

Baggage was off fairly quickly but again one of our cases was near the end.

The flight was smooth, but from start to finish this was the worst Virgin experience I've ever had which isn't something I was expecting to say. :-O

How disappointing for your return flight after such a positive experience on the outbound, hope that isn't going to put your Mum off flying again with Virgin.

Enjoyed reading both your trip reports, thanks for posting, just a pity it was such contrasting flight experiences.

Thanks TimCrawley - thankfully she seemed quite oblivious to the problems on the return and once landed she confirmed that she could see why I was so vociferous with my praise for Virgin and would definitely use them again. I think it helped that there were a couple of films she wanted to see so she shut herself off!!!

Such a shame and what a difference from your outbound.
It's always the overnight returns that are the issue in my experience...shme they can't be consistent.
