My son is off to Jersey via Flybe and I've booked him with hand luggage only (55 x 40 x 23cm). Our hand luggage is 1cm too large on one side :-O and therefore I need to buy him a new case/holdall. Can anyone recommend anything he can't overfill and will do the job.

Hi Marshy,

Depends if you're looking for a traditional cabin suitcase or something like a backpack. I've got this and it's very good:

Bretty that would be perfect if it weren't for a teenage boy. The outward journey we can cope with as I can make sure it all fits, but I do worry about him packing for the return - and after a week in Jersey with his mates, I know it will be a challenge to get him home, let alone his luggage and no fees/bills/fines!

May be prudent to have something that won't "shape-shift"? Do you think it could be "padded" outside of it's normal measurements? Try thinking rugby ball in a sock...

Mmm... well it's fairly sturdy, I can get a week's stuff in it if I pack well, and it does have an expander if you need a bit more room. I don't think it will stretch beyond its normal measurements so should be okay.

Thanks both, I will try the ebag as it has the biggest capacity by the looks of it.

I've found flybe don't really care about luggage size on the plane, though sometimes they fly a propellor plane which doesn't actually take the standard sized ones. I've seen about 6 seats taken up by peoples luggage which doesn't fit overhead.

If anything, ability for it to be flexible might be a good thing. I had a big bag which squeezed in overhead with clothes in it because it was flexible. Others with the hard cases, didn't get them in there...
