Hi V-Flyers
Is there an issue with the VS43 (LGW-LAS) tomorrow?
Have just tried to OLCI and all it says is "try at airport" (paraphrasing).
Is this normal or has there been an equipment change?
Called FC but they couldn't help much, only saying that the UC cabin (which we are traveling in) is full. Am traveling with the OH so being re-seated apart would be a bad thing!
Thx

Hi - this happens sometimes, for various reasons, keep trying otherwise you check in at the airport, it doesn't automatically mean there is a problem.
We've had it happen a few times over the years, and all but once has everything been fine.

Most likely you've been selected at random for secondary security screening (in which case your boarding card will say SSSS). And IIRC there's also a random selection of passengers who are made to check in at the desk so they can verify ID etc before issuing boarding cards.

I doubt it's a seating issue as in that case you should still be able to do OLCI at which point you'd see they've moved you. (Happened to me last year when my original seat was deemed unusable due to a broken table. When I got to the airport I asked to sit there anyway so they overrode the system at check in, put me back and in the event the table was fine).

Most likely it's completely routine but I'd get to LGW nice and early anyway as if it's a full cabin they may have oversold it and the last ones to check in may be bumped.

I'm hoping for you that it is not a problem (which it sounds like it isn't from the previous comments), I'm due to fly to Vegas from gatwick later in the year and am getting quite worried as I keep seeing things from the past about delays and flight problems with this flight am I worrying too much or have there been many problems in the past?

The LGW 747s are worked very hard with tight turnarounds at each end, so any delays do tend to cause a domino effect.

Incidentally BA are having major issues with their LGW 777s this week - Flyertalk has various tales of woe due to delays & cancellations.

The moral of the story is all airlines are subject to delays for all sorts of reasons but there's no point getting stressed about things that are out of your control and you can do very little about. You can avoid some of the hassle delays cause though by buying good travel insurance, booking cancellable hotels and avoiding tight connections.

And remember you do have rights under EU law to compensation and assistance if your flight is significantly delayed (by 3 hours or more) or cancelled.
