I have never connected at Atlanta before, I have booked a connection with VA. my flight is Man -Atl and leaves me a 90 window then to Atl - Vegas. I have read numerous posts on here about connections at ATl, and believe the 90 window should be fine to collect and drops bags etc. but will be prepared to run and have directions ready.
Couple of questions,
1/ VA have given me two Booking references, so if for some reason I miss my connection at Atlanta, are Delta responsible to try to get me on next flight or is it my responsibility/cost ?
2/ Can I be checked through all the way to Vegas, and then just drop my bags at Atl, but what is the latest time I can drop these bags, as only have 90 mins before my flight leaves for Vegas ?
Sorry first time connection in U.S., not used to this !!!

I also have a booking connecting through ATL (VS from LHR and DL onward to New Orleans). Try inputting your VS booking reference into "Manage My Trips" on DL's site. It should retrieve your booking but it replaces the VS reference with a DL one. So you should definitely be on a through ticket, ie. London to Vegas all on one booking. ATL is a large airport with a SkyTrain linking the different terminals. 90 mins should be OK so long as immigration queues are short. I also read that the automated kiosks are in place there which hopefully speeds up immigration. Yes, you'll need to collect your luggage and clear customs, then re-drop it. If for whatever reason you don't make it time then DL will be obliged to get you on the next flight, provided there's space on that next flight.

Cheers

I normally do ex EU trip, but wanted to fly from Man as only an hour away. Straight through flights Sun/Thur only.
And my work won't give me any more leave : >-( so have to come back Thursday.
Hence going on Saturday and making most of my time.

both myself and other half had connections VS-DL there this year, me in january, my bag missed the DL flight; her in july, bags missed the DL flight (as did the bags of four others she was travelling with)

my bag caught up about 8 hours late, theirs were about 20 hours late to destination

my connection time was about 90 mins, theirs was over two hours

obviously not a statistically significant sample size, but on my flight before i gave up waiting at MCO i saw many other ATL pax forlornly join the queue at the DL baggage desk to report their missing bags

at the DL desk their opinion was TSA sometimes hold up bags on inbound flights for extra checks, so if yours is one of them it'll be missing the connection

no issues on return, bags checked through and no need for 'manual' transfer at ATL

but now even the thought of a connecting flight via ATL makes me tense and i have to pour some more wine

I have been in similar boat with baggage and not arriving at my destination. I do remember my wife collecting MY case and she was walking off as I said we better report your baggage being left behind in Denver. The look on her face when she realised it was my case she and not hers.

Given that we're flying to MCO via ATL in a couple of months (8 weeks, 5 days, I'm being told), this is good to know so that we can at least carry a change of underwear in our hand luggage so that 1) we can get really embarrassed when our bags are searched at security and 2) we're not too unclean when we meet Mickey on our first day there!

If your bags don't make it onto the connecting flight with you, do DL deliver it to your destination (WDW in our case), or do you have to trek back to the airport to pick it up?

in both our cases DL had the bags delivered to our hotels

i was also at MCO WDW, though it was for annual company rah rah death by powerpoint and sleep deprivation event, there were a couple of thousand of us at the swan & dolphin complex

for mine DL gave me a card with reference number for http://www.wheresmysuitcase.com/ and when i got to the hotel i logged in to look, it let me put in contact details etc. to ease delivery, if you have the misfortune to go through the same i recommend doing this as from memory the initial info (that presumably came from DL) was incomplete

about 4-5 in the morning as i was awake i checked the status and learned it had just arrived and was in the hotel baggage store waiting for me, i was down there in minutes!
