VS UC return for two to/fro UVF in November/December now a total £3088, it was over £5000 two days ago. Wouldn't you be annoyed if you had booked one on Monday?

Still cheaper ex Dub but interestingly, the trip (BA, VS, VS, BA) using that routing has now increased to almost the same amount as the new VS fare....£3029, it was £2700.

However the price using BA for all four legs has reduced to £2483. Whereas simply doing a to and fro LGW-UVF on BA is £3388.

So no point doing ex Dub for VS on this journey based on that. But still worth doing for BA.

And now, five hours later, it is back down to £2700.

What a game this is!!

I am waiting for the flight sales next month as I am treating myself to a UC flight to Montego in February; splurging with my bonus payment !! For the few years that I have booked during sales I find they generally offer them in April & September.

There are only 14 UC seats on the Montego Bay route so the seats in February are probably mostly booked by now. Thanks to a post on v-flyer we were able to get 2 in the early May sale in 2014, couldn't believe our luck!

After a frustrating few hours, finally bagged SFO ex-DUB for £1180, the dates are pretty erratic right now, one minute the flights are there the next gone...I was getting all the way to the payment stage for the dates I wanted on Expedia then told the flight was sold out after trying to pay.

Tried on ebookers for the very same dates and it went through, go figure.

There's a known problem with trying to book VS ex-EU fares via expedia - it lets you price up itineraries but then throws up a "flights no longer available" message when you actually try and book.

Whether it's just a bug or deliberate who knows but ebookers seems to be the way forward for now.

Did you mean May 2014 or 2015, Wow! Really? That early? When are you flying? Were the seats in the sale and do you mind saying how much you paid?

Sorry - I should have been a bit clearer. We bought 2 UC tickets in the May 2014 sale for a 1st Feb 2015 flight to MBJ. It was just under £1300 each return and when the new seat booking system opened I managed to bag 6A and 6K up in the nose.
Next Feb we're back to PE for our flight to Antigua :-( , but after last year's triumph I'll be on the lookout next May to see if I can get 2 UC tickets for our Feb 2017 return to Jamaica - we loved that tiny UC cabin.

It seems BA are not honouring these mistake fares. Much angst over on FT from people who've just had them cancelled.

Thanks for the update, my sandy toes.

You really got a bargain. I was keeping an eye out this year for a bargain UC flight to Jamaica, watched my emails and then it dawned on me that I hadn't received any marketing emails in a year. I checked my trash and spam boxes - nothing. I actually called Virgin this week and queried it. The guy had me on the phone for ages, he was helpful and came back saying that he can't see a problem but will run it by another dept. The same day the sales started and I STILL didn't get an email. But received one yesterday and another this morning. I bet they removed me from marketing emails in error ! AND I bet they had an amazing UC sale earlier this year. I should have made a quiet complaint >-( but they probably wouldn't believe me. My booking says I can upgrade for £750 one way but that is out of my price bucket and I do not want the chauffeur experience. I don't like the idea of the street seeing me going away.

Oh well. I got a great price on PE tickets. But I really want to experience the Clubhouse ;-( I'll have to keep an eye out on this site in future. Everyone here is on the ball.

I hope you had a lovely experience traveling in U C in February.

Can't help on ex US fares, I'm afraid. Ex EU fares are those that start and end somewhere in Europe, and are priced to attract people from those countries to use services out of London. So you'd have to start your outbound journey in Dublin, Brussels or Amsterdam. Not really of use to you, I don't think...

There probably is a US equivalent to ex-EU equivalent but it would mean flying from a less local airport to where you are and involve extra flights.

Direct flights attract a premium plus many people are unwilling to do extra flights because of the hassle.

Lets say you live in Boston and airline X flies from there. But airline Z flies from NYC and wants to attract more custom so offers you a much cheaper ticket to fly from NYC rather than BOS even though it involves an extra flight to get to NYC. Even allowing for the cost of you getting from BOS to NYC you save more than the difference between the indorect and the direct flight.

There is an ex-US for Canadians where it can be cheaper for Canadians to fly from SEA rather than YVR or for people in Toronto to drive to Buffalo and start there.

I'm glad I'm not alone in not getting any marketing emails from Virgin! I too had been keeping an eye out for a sale as we wanted to go to Vegas in the New Year (not for the New Year, I suspect it'd be a bit too crowded and boisterous for us), and nothing was showing up in my inbox. Then today, I got an email from Air New Zealand, which made me think perhaps if they had a sale on, Virgin might have one too. I looked on here, saw this thread and then quickly went and snagged the last two available seats on VS 43 for the date I'd pencilled in in January.

In future, I think I'll just check out this forum rather than wait on emails, as it seems to be ahead of the game on these sales!
