Hi Newbie here so be gentle

I plan to visit Orlando next October from Manchester, flights not out yet. I currently have 120k miles and estimate to have around 160k before flights are released. I also have 2 PE upgrades along with a companion flight offer. I will be travelling with wife, 5 year child and infant. Question is i imagine we would get bulk head seats in econ due to infant and sky cot so is the PE worth it?. also unsure of best way to use the offers I have.

any advice welcome

Hello and welcome, we're all gentle folk here ;-)

I've not personally flown in PE or Y on VS, BUT there are lots of folks who will tell you that the jump from Y to PE is worth it. Forget about using the companion voucher, it's not good value since you have to buy a ticket in the most expensive fare buckets. Your PE upgrade vouchers will allow you to get 2 PE seats for the miles of 2 Y seats + taxes, which will be total 85,000 miles (instead of 140,000 miles) with total taxes somewhere between £480 - £576. There needs to be PE reward availability not Y.

I think the infant would travel FOC so that leaves a seat for your 5 year old to get - either cash or use miles if there's availability for a third PE reward seat. PE rewards on this route are normally 70,000 miles plus taxes but I don't know if that differs for children (I don't have any so no experience with it).

I'm sure someone will pop along soon to fill in the blanks but I hope that's helpful.

I agree the companion voucher is not worth it because of the high cost of the other fare. Free upgrades, however, are worth it. After flying PE as a 'special treat' about 15 years ago, we haven't flown economy since! PE in the downstairs cabin (if they are still flying 747s when you go) is great - there is a bulkhead row at front of PE. The overall experience in PE is better and far more comfortable.
We are off from Manchester to Orlando in the morning enjoying our 2 PE upgrade vouchers!

Don't rely on getting the bulkhead seat just because you have a lap child.

The MCO route is very popular with families and there are limited bulkhead seats.

I am flying MAN to MCO PE in November with an infant. The infant airfare was 10% of an adult fare, which includes luggage, a car seat and a buggy. The infant seating is a shambles - we booked as soon as the flights were available and requested a bassinet for the baby. The request is logged, but nothing guaranteed as they are allocated on a first come first served basis - the advice if we want to sit together with a bassinet is to arrive very early at the airport - the last thing that we want to do with a baby!!
