Hi

I am thinking of changing my credit card as the t&c's are changing and I want to get the best reward on my spend.
Obviously the Black card gives a better return but incurs a cost of £140 annually. Could anyone offer an insight for me on which one I should consider.

Many thanks

I guess it really comes down to personal choice.

I have the black and find the various Amex offers in effect pay the fee. This month alone I've had £50 from an Apple spend and £30 from 3 other minimum spends.

the APR on the black is huge compared to the white. Bonuses & Rewards are easier to hit, but you need to work out the value of £140 to you. It may be worth it to you just for the E to PE upgrade voucher/s - just as long as you clear your balance monthly.

eg
2 miles to £1 (assuming only AMEX spend) spend £5k to activate the bonus & E to PE voucher. thats 10,000 miles + the 32,000 bonus currently on offer, would give you 42,000 miles. Enough for a PE return flight for one to New York with some miles left over.

or spend £3k to hit the 32000 bonus & your £140 fee has bought you 32000 miles for 0.8p each I think. That bonus is only a one time thing though.. so its all about the E to PE upgrade vouchers IMO.

Thank you for your replies. I need to look into the Amex offers and see how they will apply to me.

I only have one main card which I pay off in full each month so not worried about the apr just wanted to consider earning more miles.

Many thanks

As long as your monthly spend is average or above and you actually intend to use the miles, then the black card is a no brainer. The fee is easily covered by the extra miles you earn and if you sign up during a bonus offer period then even better.
The vouchers are a nice bonus, but even as an average spender you should hit them on either card, for the value comes from the extra miles earned on the black card.

You can also earn an extra 3000 miles if someone with a card refers you - a simple email link is sent and you click through to apply for the card. Assuming you're accepted you get 3000 mile bonus on your first spend on the card. This is on top of any other bonus offers.
