Dear fellow V flyers

I need to share my feeling of utter humiliation & rejection with you.

For 8 or 9 years I held VS gold status due to frequent business travel with VS & partner airlines, a couple of years ago
due to reduced travel I suffered the humiliation of being reduced to silver status, I managed to hold on to this due to
holiday travel. Last night I arrived home to find a small package from Virgin, I opened it excitedly, imagine my horror
to find that it contained a red V Flyer card. It took me long enough to get over being kicked down to silver, goodness knows how I will handle the trauma of this final humiliation, maybe I will make an appointment to see my GP.

I feel comfortable enough sharing this news with fellow V Flyers, you will understand my feeling but could not share this traumatic news outside of this forum.

Any advice on how I should manage this situation would be greatly appreciated.

Thanking you in anticipation.

Get a can of spray paint ;-) or just think how lucky you was for the past nine years.

Don't fret too much as it's just a piece of coloured plastic though.

Your day could get worse if you support rugby !

I understand your pain as I suffered the same humiliation myself earlier this year. How did I manage the situation?

With copious G&Ts of course. :D

Look at it this way. You're now free to choose whichever airline gives you the schedule and price that suits you best. No more ties...

Dear oldboy,
I'm sorry for your loss. I could arrange some counselling for you from a network of my associates. :-(
Or arrange for you to go to a drop-in centre with a support group for less frequent flyers. There's usually champagne and hot food at these centres, but I'm afraid it's not complimentary. ;-(
There are centres like this at most airports though.

Maybe your GP can help, is he a frequent flyer? Can he guest you in to the Clubhouse? :-P

I understand the feeling - I had the same when I went from Diamond to Silver on CX. However, after an initial sulk I did accept that it was because I no longer fly them and so even if I had the Diamond I would still not be flying them. It was liberating in a way as I was no longer tied to a brand. Although there are now several airlines that do grant you lifetime status after a certain period or miles flown (UA give you lifetime gold @1m, lifetime plat @2m).
If you were VS Gold for 9 years it is a pity you could not squeeze in another year and qualify for lifetime. There is a point at which we all must curtail our travel and, even though it is many years away, I still think about it (which I know is a bit obsessive).

I too am now a member of this illustrious club. . It's actually rather liberating and to be honest it makes little difference if you stay sitting up the front anyway :).

But you need to be gold just for the extra baggage allowance! I know it's only one bag but a bag is a bag is a bag!

But as one who has never achieved anything more the Silver with VS and Bronze with BA - both accidental - I've always gone for the which airline gives good service but is cheap!

My next trip is on DL which should get me to VS silver. What happens after that depends on ex-EU prices ;-) ;-)

I have never been gold, but will drop from Silver back to Red next year, which I will make my red nose day.
Namely I will be in 6k MCO bound for my one and only yearly flight.
Might have to drink a redhead in the CH first.
When I pick up my hire car I'll see if they have a red Cadillac.
The more I think about it the more red seems like a good colour. Red is the new Silver.

Indeed Tonty :) .I've thrown in the towel and conceded that even I can just about manage with 3 x32kgs... My next trip involves a bus journey ( :-O ) and three Y flights on AA ( with just lost CX Au status) so that'll be interesting lol :)

You can try oldboy but you'd have get past my receptionist first :D

I had a similar case only last week and it did not turn out well, the poor chap needed sedating, sectioning and is now being held in a secure facility :-O

Apparently he keeps calling our "Lanson! Lanson! Lanson!". The outlook is bleak I fear.

Thank you all for your input, much appreciated.

The passage of the last few days has started to ease my pain.

Fortunately all future travel plans will include UC or competitors equivelant.

The point regarding flexibility to use other airlines is a good one, during the period when I held gold status I was obsessive about using VS to maintain. A colleague who was equally obsessive gained lifetime gold status now rarely travels with VS as he prefers Cathays business class offering on his frequent Hong Kong trips.

Have a good weekend all.
