Hello,

Just wondered what the standard of the Gatwick 747s are like? Particularly in UC. I've read a lot about the LHR 747s and how they're done, are the LGW ones as bad? Any chance they'll have wifi by next September? Im guessing this route isn't as important to them!

I flew LHR-MIA and then LAX-LHR in 2013. Thought they were ok, but seats a bit worn, and the tv screens of poor quality.

Sorry for all the questions, although I'm not flying for another 11 months, I can't get the excitement out of my head.

They are certainly not bad. With only 14 seats in Upper they are a bit cosy but I've never had a problem with my seat although on my last trip home in March there was one passenger who couldn't get his to convert to a bed.
I can't speak for the IFE as I have never used it.
I am looking forward to sitting in 6K again next Feb

Yes, I've booked row 6 as well!!

Looking forward to the CH also, although it looks nowhere as impressive as the one at LHR.

The first 747 is being fitted with wifi this winter and the rest next year so most should be done by September. IFE is Vera touch touchscreen and works well. Seats have been refreshed. Hope you enjoy your flight

The Gatwick 747 fleet was subject to a refresh / refit - including of the IFE - back in 2012/2013 so should be in a better state than the LHR aircraft in which you flew.

As to the CH, it depends what you mean by "impressive". :) It's certainly smaller and with fewer facilities and treatments (e.g. no haircuts) than its LHR cousin, but the staff have always impressed us with their enthusiasm and service. They know that the overwhelming probability is that you are going on holiday and actively seek to help with "the fizzle".

Thanks everyone for the replies. It never ceases to amaze me how knowledgeable and passionate people are on v-flyer.

I hope the LGW CH staff can make a good mojito!

Thanks

Hi guys, new to the forum, nice to meet everyone!

Just a quick question, sorry for invading this thread, i have a virgin holiday booked 23rd April 2016 and have booked my seats in the Bubble (747) I am obviously aware that the 747's are due to be replaced in the future, at LHR and LGW. Are the replacements being made before i fly or is it a long way in the future? i will be gutted if i do not fly on a 747, i have never been on one and it has always been an aircraft that i admire, plus i am looking forward to the bubble, i have never flown with Virgin, so i am hoping for a good flight!

Thanks,

Ross.

Hi and welcome to V-Flyer.

Where are you going? If it's from LGW, you'll be fine as they're not leaving the fleet just yet - just the LHR ones
