Hi Guys
just a quick one .. after looking at options of when to book my flights separate or not (thanks everyone who posted on the other thread) I was looking at options today ..

I can get a reward flight with miles or an miles upgrade for the outbound flight and the inbound flight is showing a price of £767 for z code (rewards not realised yet)?

what do you guys think ? ... we are also trying to save miles for our other family trip but have a while until they are needed

thanks

You need to be careful, as you can't combine a full reward one way with a Z the other way as the combo fares aren't applicable to UC.

The Z price you are seeing is linked to the associated outbound fare.

You would be able to combine that Z price with an M economy fare upgraded with miles.

cool thanks .. this site is fab for all the help and advice !!

if I did do the upgrade option I would still earn FC miles aswell .. any rough costings for an m ticket (would be around 29th September) ?

Thanks

It's easier to call to be honest to get the price, as you will still pay the UC taxes, so FC will be able to give you the overall price.

You can however combine an M --> G one way reward with a Z . I've done this before, ie. G (miles upgrade from M) out to LAX then revenue Z back from LAS.

I think I am going to give them a call at lunch hopefully, if not tonight and get a price for the upgrade and flight home ... I was figuring on around £1100 each for upgrades both ways so if its not to far off its worth it as I will still keep a fair few miles .. if not then I might ask nicely if they could hold the outbound flights .
any other advantages of the z code return over a upgrade ?

Thanks

Only that you earn miles and TP's on the Z fare rather than the lower amount on an M fare or none on a straight reward.

Not sure where you going but £1100 per person is venturing into ex eu or sale prices. Have a shop around but if its going to cost the same for a UC from a European starting point then I would not bother spending miles on a ticket.

I understand what you are saying, but ex EU isn't always possible for everyone.
Living where we do and with our work commitments, doing ex EU means it would add another day to our holiday and that just isn't possible, and quite frankly the extra hassle of at least 2 more flights just means it isn't worth considering for us.

I know for some people, especially those that live close to an airport, ex EU is excellent, and there is no questioning the savings are very good, but it isn't automatically feasible or suitable, and it is quite frustrating at times to see people constantly comment negatively if people want to use miles or aren't considering ex EU. I'm not saying that is what you are doing, it is more a general comment.

thanks guys ..
we live a 3.5 hr drive from Manchester airport (our closet VA departure airport) and BF doesn't want to drag out the getting there bit any more than is needed so I was thinking our usual direct from man flight would be the best option., plus I don't really understand the ex EU thing ..
I was hoping around £2200 - £2500 plus miles would be enough ...

That is true (I wasn't trying to be negative) but I just thought I would mention it as another option for the OP. I live oop north so have to get down to London one way or another so an ex eu isn't always a bad shout (easy jump to Dublin etc) but I know its not always feasible for all. I personally think if there isn't a lot in it and the extra flights aren't a hassle then I would not want to spend miles when I could be earning them for the same price and burning them in the future for another holiday :) I know its different if you are miles rich but a lot of us aren't!

hi we are from north too and its just a shame that Manchester doesn't have the same UC facilities as the London airports ..
we are going to orlando so would need to fly Manchester or Gatwick so I thought it wasn't worth the extra hassel to get to Gatwick just for the lounge .. might have to do a quick bit research into the ex eu though as we are not miles rich .. yet lol

I agree, we are regular MAN-MCO travellers and to be honest, we have started to just fly PE on this route. As much as I love flying UC, without all of the nice extra touches, I just can't justify the cost difference on a relatively short flight, esp the return which is often only 7 hours.

I use my AmEx PE upgrade vouchers, and with taxes, it's just cost me £650 for us both to fly UC, it would be absolute min £2200 for UC, so we now save our UC travel when we are flying ex LHR or LGW only.

Just incase you didn't see my other thread I'm all booked yay !
When I called to enquire the guy said that there was reward availability for the return flight on his screen (non online but 4 seats on his) so £2079 down but all booked ... Sooooo looking forward to it now !
Paid with my VA Amex card so around 8000 extra miles too !! I've got a feeling it's statement date tomorrow (first one) and hopefully they will hit that too

I quite agree with you, Neil even though I am a frequent user of the ex-EU option and I really don't mind the extra flights. However, even though my local airport is an ex-EU one, it doesn't always guarantee the savings. OK, I have managed to get significant bargains on flights to EZE, LAS and JNB on BA, primarily because EI codeshares with BA. However for my forthcoming flight to JNB, it has been significantly cheaper to go ex-AMS. This does mean an extra day travelling, mainly because I have chosen to take the late evening flight on Sunday to AMS rather than get up at stupid o'clock for a 6am flight (and I wouldn't dream of asking anyone to take me to the airport at that hour of the morning!) I have the time for the extra night but not everyone has that luxury.
