Another black card question

Hi and thanks for reading. Earlier this year I took out the black Amex/visa and noticed in sept on my virgin account I had a vaa credit card companion flight qualification. Now my understanding is I had to spend £7,500 to unlock this. How come then I haven't been notified of the ec-pe upgrade which requires £5000 spend? Confused!

The voucher for the £7,500 spend is applied to the account as soon as you reach that target.

The voucher for the £5000 spend is applied at the end of your credit card account year.

The former is worthless, the latter is far better.
