Any idea what the seat pitch is like in 47ABC HJK? Seatguru states its extra leg room? Wonder whether its worth paying for?

Also should i pay for the extra leg room and then PE/UC open up, would i get this factored in to any upgrade?

Those are indeed extra legroom seats. In fact that is the only row of ELR seats on the 787. They give an additional 3 inches of room, so the pitch would be 34". I haven't personally travelled in an ELR seat so I can't comment myself. How tall are you? What route are you flying? I'm 6'4" so I'd probably pay for it regardless of the length of the journey!

And yes, if you paid for an ELR or exit row seat, the cost gets refunded if you upgrade to PE/Upper :)

Having travelled to HKG in a 787 in Y last month, I have to say there is definitely more legroom compare to the likes of 747 and A340. My kneecaps are usually close to the seat in front on the older planes but in the 787, there was plenty of room. I was also trapped in the dreaded centre seat and it definitely wasn't that bad.

But 6'7" could be a different matter.

I'd say go for it NYC, in a regular seat you could be resting your chin on your knees! If you have no luck with the upgrade I'd see if you can get yourself an exit row seat.
