Am flying out to SFO on friday, and just wondering what the state of amenity kits is these days? is it still the PET ones? Did i also hear they dont give them out on outgoing flights these days?

No idea on the contents - there are literally dozens of threads on those so have a search.

In UC it should be on your seat already or handed to you when a member of CC comes and greets you and offer you a post boarding drink.

It is only in Y (and I think PE) that they are on-request on outboubd (leaving the UK)

last few flights it's been one like this (not my ad!)...

i've always found the kit on the seat when boarding, you get one each direction, at one point i got the PET on one leg and the newer one on the other, now it's all the newer one

there's a review of kits here, VS shows the PET pouch, but the contents are the same...

We recently flew out to SFO from LHR and it was the standard kit it used to be plus some lip balm.

Socks
Pen
Toothbrush
Eye mask
Tissues
Toothpaste
Ear plugs
A paper envelope for Change for Children
Lip Balm

Think thats about it. The ones on the dreamliner leg of our flight was different to the return flight on the outside but the same contents. It felt really cheap actually. (My OH complained the lip balm burns your lips after a while!)

Thanks Sungod, the last few flights we've been on we got the small PET ones, only got the tablet sized on one flight. looks like they have changed them again.

The only item I generally end up using from the amenity kits is the lip balm. I find that whenever I am in Florida the climate makes my lips dry up and crack (& hurt like hell I hasten to add). It's the mix of the warm / humid weather & the cold air-con. I do use the Change for Children envelope on the return flight to ditch all my US loose change smaller than a quarter.

TBH, the amenity kit is pretty naff, even in UC. 2p biro. 2p toothbrush, with thumbnail of toothpaste tube. You get the drift. I think Virgin claimed in the past when they put the "extras" of the amenity kit on the bar, they all got taken.

I'd far rather see no amenity kit & have the basics available on demand (& of decent quality / size). On Emirates in J there is no amenity kit - but in the toilets you can get proper toothbrushes, toothpaste (not a thumbnail tube), combs, razors & shaving foam etc).

I think the way forward is either to do an "all bells & whistles" amenity kit - which only one of the ME3 will do, in First - or ditch it and make it self-serve / on demand and increase the quality of the products.

I actually found a Virgin amenity kit pen from Economy the other day in a drawer - from about 2004 (slightly see-through fluorescent yellow in colour). It puts the current 2p biro that you get in Upper Class to shame!

Not denying the naff ness of the VS offering (bring back the shoe bags) but I thought you got an amenity kit on EK on night flights and ultra long haul?

We don't usually bother picking up the UC amenity kit these days, never used to fail to bring home the old, stylish (Oswold Botang, I think) ones in years past.
