Hey all,
Just wondering if anyone can let me know about the seat selection process on Delta US Domestic (via Delta.com)
The last five or six flights I have been able to select the Delta comfort + seats. These flights have been short hops and from one coast to the other. This time I am only able to book preferred seats with a cost appearing.
Is there a time limit I have missed on when I can go an re-select the comfort + seats??
Thanks

Yes, Delta changed the rules for VS Golds in March. You can now only select Comfort+ for free 72 hours before departure.

The same applies to DL's own Gold Medallion members so it's not just a VS thing.

Thanks gumshoe.
It does beg the question is that far equation VS Au = Gold Medallion??
Looking at the spend for the MQM $9000 for Platinum Medallion and $15000 for Diamond Medallion should there not be a raising of the VS Au to equal a higher tier??? Look at the CH they get access to >-(

VS Au can easily be had for a £2000 spend - none of which need actually be with VS itself - while you have to spend $6000 to get DL Gold Medallion.

So on that basis you could argue VS Golds get a better deal (although it's more complicated than that in terms of perks etc).

You make a valid point on the $$$ value gumshoe, tho I must admin I didn't know the amount was that low. Must look in to that :)
However as you say the value, to me anyway, is calculated is more ways.
Wonder how many people do get Au for $2000......

£ rather than $ - but I imagine a fair few in the last year or two, as a return Little Red flight is normally around the £100 mark. 20 of those would make you Au and LR has (or had) a number of pretty regular flyers.

Even easier for Americans as a DL domestic return in First nets 6 TPs and can be had for $3-400 on some routes. Seven of those and you can be VS Au for around $2500-3000 - plus the US-issued credit cards give TPs with a certain spend.

Sorry to drag up an old thread but I see there's yet another "enhancement" of the benefit whereby VS Golds get complimentary upgrades to Economy Comfort+ on DL internal flights.

When the partnership began, you were automatically entitled to an upgrade at time of booking. Earlier this year that was cut back to 72 hours before departure. From May 2016 it'll be cut back again, to on the day and with no guarantee - you'll just be put on a standby list at the gate, presumably along with dozens of DL's own FFs, many of whom will be higher up the priority list.

So what was a very decent Au benefit is about to all but disappear, unless I'm reading it wrong.

Yeah, my future internal connections look likely to be stuck in economy.

For what it's worth - this isn't so much a targeted downgrade of VS Au benefits, it's a knock-on effect from changes Delta has made to Economy Comfort+, it's now being marketed as it's own cabin as a W fare (although it doesn't compare to premium economy, of course), so free upgrades aren't given as Gold Medalion benefits anymore, which cascade down to VS Gold benefits.
It's pay up or hope you get lucky on the day. Note, I've not actually been able to find a way to "pay up".

Something I'd add though - full fare Y fares which VS code-share fares sometimes book into via my corporate agent at least are still eligible for a complementary E+ upgrade as a VS gold. Even above the 72 hours - I think that is a policy somewhere on DL's small print. Its only full fare Y that counts... so it's luck of drawer if you get. But it was darned handy on a post-conference flight where half of the plane to Atlanta had status in late Sept/early Oct.

(well that was case AFTER these rule changes came in earlier in year).

I'd add VS have renewed my gold thankfully despite being a few TP short - good of them, and will keep me flying with VS next year.

You are correct gumshoe. I have now also see that all my Delta internals are stuck in Economy. Did not know about the loss of the 72 Hours thing. Not happy about that at all. I did use to chuckle when I saw my name for the first upgrade, always last. When I spoke to someone, another pax, on the list who was three above me he told me he had not flown Delta for 3 years, he just had a credit card :-(
I have a long internal from LAX to BOS next month. I have been able to get the + seat the last few times I have flown that route. I may now just go and look at the cost to pay for it.
