Hi all,

Hoping one of you seasoned travellers may have some advice on this!

I was thinking of taking Mrs D to NY in December and was thinking of using the reward seat sale + 2 Eco->PE upgrade vouchers to upgrade all 4 legs.

I received my Virgin credit card in March last year and while I have spent the necessary funds for the vouchers, I obviously won't get them until after the current reward seat sale ends!

What are my options?

- Wait until the next reward seat sale hopefully?
- Book economy now and upgrade later, hoping for PE availability? Would upgrading later incur a change fee as well as the uplift in taxes?

Thanks!

Not sure if virgin would do it but could you call up and ask if you could retrospectively apply your award upgrade once you have it in march. Use Miles and pay for the PE and then get a refund of the difference in miles when you use your voucher. The only thing that may hamper this is they may not be able to refund the difference down the the economy reward value.

If you book E & then try to upgrade to PE later.
They will cancel your E booking, refund your miles & then rebook on you on the PE.
Chances are they will take whatever is the current mileage at the time.
You could always call & ask CS (record the date & time of the call) - to confirm they will honor the E sale prices for PE later.
If there is an arguement later down the line, then you have the date & time of the conversation for them to listen back to.. they should at least honor it then.

I'm sure I've read in here somewhere (you'll have to search) that someone in a similar situ booked their PE rewards and then when they got the Amex vouchers on their account had FC apply them and refund the difference in miles.

That was me - but I had to speak to Virgin first & I had a contact name & direct number of the person who said she would make it work.
The problem with my booking was I was past my anniversary date, but the PE voucher had not been applied to my account. Where as the OP wants to apply vouchers that he has yet earned, as he has not reached his anniversary date.

I've more than earned - just not yet had them awarded ;)

Thanks for all the replies - I'll just have to wait for another sale later in the year perhaps.
