Hi

I'm doing the DUB to SFO at the end of the month, starting with a late afternoon flight from DUB to LHR on BA, then to SFO the following morning on VS19.

My plan is to go out to DUB without any checked baggage, come back to LHR and come home, before going back to LHR the next day with a bag to drop for the VS flight.

Is this going to cause issues as I will have checked in for the whole journey at DUB without any bags?

Not at all, we never take luggage when positioning to the EU start point. Remember you are effectively only checking in for the BA flight at the outset as BA OLCI won't let you check in for the VS sector, you do OLCI for that on the VS app or website. Then just pitch up at VS check in as normal to drop your bags.

Hijack for a related question...please.
How about checking in a bag before starting the first leg of an ex Ams trip. Position flight is LHR to AMS then the real trip starts at AMS then onto a VS flight at LHR. I thought about this due to recent delayed bags from T5 not making the VS flight from T3. Maybe it can't be done as the first part of the itinerary hasn't been taken by then.....hope that reads correctly?
Thanks

That's an interesting one, I would have thought it's not possible but you could always ask at VS check-in on the day? I take it you're VS flight is in the afternoon/evening and you're positioning to and returning from your EU point in the morning? My ex EU's are always such that the VS flight is the following day, hence I never bother taking luggage to the EU start point.

Spot on.
I thought :

Drop off bag at VS T3 early morning
Hex over to T5 for the positioning trip to AMS
Start the AMS itinerary which gets back into T5
Hex back to T3 and onto the evening VS flight.
All without having to traipse my bag off and on a couple of times.

I'll ask at VS desk on the day......maybe even leave it at a left luggage place if my idea doesn't work
Thanks

When we did ex-DUB last year, we left our cases at the luggage storage place in T5 and picked them up when we got back to LHR before taking the free train from T5 to T3. Much easier than taking them with us and worrying about them getting there.

That's looking like a plan for me as well
Thanks
