I am really not sure what is going on with Virgin and cost cutting in Upper, ice cream, love hearts etc. My other half flew on the VS207 last week and there were no menu/drinks cards available just a sheet of plain A4 paper with the choices. A one off issue we thought. Low and behold when I flew VS207 a week later its the same thing, whereas on the first flight every passenger had their own "menu" on mine the only sheets were the ones the crew had, you got about 5 minutes to make your choice before it was handed on to the next passenger. The actual choices seemed more limited, I normally eat in the HK clubhouse and then have one of the light bite options on the plane before going to sleep, no options for this on the menu this time. The breakfast menu was also similarly limited in choice.
I have done 4 sectors with Virgin so far this year and the general feeling is that the quality of the food has gone down enormously over previous years. I know that the food is not that important but its all part of the package and the dark side is getting far more of my business this year on the basis of recent experiences with Virgin.

Has the menu not just changed cycle in the last week or two ?

Have flown from LGW, MAN, MCO, LHR, ATL and JFK in the last 12 months and have been impressed with the latest food offerings. In fact the chicken biryani on the last menu was one of the best meals I've had.

The only disappointment is the awful fizzy English wine they serve on board as a replacement for champagne.

However, as always YMMV.

They don't serve Champagne in Upper anymore?

I was striving to book a west coast trip at New Year, and didn't do it on BA because I wanted to show my Mum VS's product, and VS was 330 days before booking. But now, if they're not doing champers anymore, it's down to the avoid list. LHR Clubhouse can only prop up the product so much...

Yes the serve champers in Upper except on the 787 where they serve Meon Hill an award winning English Sparking Wine.


But reading some of the other threads on the same subject champers is available in the 787 but on request.

Oh god, like I repeated to my other half when I flew BA in the Galleries Club.

"Champagne is available on request."
"Champagne is available on request."
"Champagne is available on request."

Which in effect meant scooting around after the table clearers to ask....

The last four flights I've been on since Jan, all have champagne on.

The last two 787 flights last month also had Champagne. That English Sparkling wine has now gone and been replaced with Gardet onboard. There is also the PE prosecco available for UC to dive into, as I know that's a popular drink right now.
