2-4-1 Companion ticket upgradable?

Assuming you use the companion ticket from the Virgin Black card on an upgradable fare (W,S, etc) would the companion ticket also be upgradable with miles? I'm guessing no, but I haven't seen anything that definitively says it is not. Does the companion ticket come out of an award fare bucket? Thanks.

Companion tickets come out of the reward fare bucket yes, so there would need to be availability to redeem. Alas, they are not upgradable with miles though.

The revenue fare gain the companion ticket, is of course upgradable still with miles or cash.
