Having booked PE seats with the Amex upgrade vouchers, is there any way to take advantage of the sale redemption for this booking?

Not with an existing booking without cancelling and starting afresh.
If it a new booking, then you can use the AmEx vouchers on the reduced mileage amount.

If you think your Amex situation is bad, I bought nearly 40 thousand points on Wednesday to secure two Upper Class returns to Miami during September! At least I got the flights and dates I wanted.

I feel your pain. BUT you weighed it up and bagged a good deal. If you hadn't booked the seats may not be there now.
I'd have done the same.

Shame can only book 12 months in advance.
Not planning on long haul until 2nd half of 2017. First half is for Snowboard trip.
I will need to book on the next one - or risk losing my E to PE upgrades.

The sale is for Economy seats only - so there's zero change for someone buying an UC seat.
Be happy!

I think the issue is buying 40000 miles when in the sale you now get 30% extra so you'd only pay for 33000.
I'm up at silly o'clock to check for seats because they disappear fast.

I was hoping the economy reward seat sale was going to appear in a couple of months time! Waiting for our PE upgrade vouchers to hit my account in June to book some flights to Antigua next March.
Full availability in all classes now with the cheap economy reward seats!! Aargh!

AFAIK the vouchers don't have to be used at time of booking so there's nothing to stop you booking your economy reward seats now in the sale, then using your vouchers to upgrade when they hit your account at a later date (assuming, of course, there's still PE reward availability at that point).

To use the PE upgrade voucher there needs to be reward available in PE & E or E already purchased.
If there is no E reward available or already purchased - then they will not be able upgrade you.
So bag yourself the cheap Economy seats & then hope there are PE seats in the time from the voucher hitting your account & to when you fly.

If you use your upgrade voucher at the same time as booking your Economy reward seats, there only needs to be reward availability in PE, not Economy.

If you use your upgrade voucher AFTER you've booked your Economy reward seats, there needs to be reward availability in Economy when you first book and then in PE when you subsequently upgrade.

So yes, if there's reward availability in Economy now I'd take advantage of the sale and snap it up, then use your vouchers when they arrive assuming there's still reward availability in PE.

your first point - has anyone used the PE voucher without an E being available? because I was told by the call centre that there must be an E available if I had not booked & a PE.
Typical virgin call centre & getting different information if you are correct!

There does not have to be an E reward seat available just a PE seat if you are using your AMEX voucher. Essentially the voucher is not upgrading an economy redemption but allow a PE redemption but for economy miles.

Ditto to the above, for a straight booking, there only needs to be PE reward seats available when you book.
