Just a little gripe from the North!
Last week I had a connection from the IAD Virgin flight at T3 to a BA shuttle up to MAN from T5, it took 45 minutes from the aircraft door to walking out of the customs hall. Total shambles, however I had plenty of time and even managed a shower on the way.
However in August I have a 90 minute connection from a T3 YVR arrival at 13.55 and a MAN departure at T5 at 15.35. My days of running are long gone and worried about the connection times I emailed “You First” at BA asking to be put on a later flight. The next one is not until 19.25!
Doing a very quick look I have noticed there are 5 BA/AA and 2 VS/Delta flights to New York between 15.35 and 19.25 but of course now’t to Manchester!
Since the demise of Little Red BA have the route all to themselves and can charge what they like and schedule when they see fit. I have done 4 MAN – LHR returns so far this year and every time they appear to have been full! I might be wrong but years ago there was a “proper” shuttle with a plane every hour, perhaps a lot of the traffic has been poached by Virgin Trains?

Fully agree miss Virgin Red and also any northern flight to Gatwick so I don't have to get the train down :-D

I fear you've just been unlucky with your days. I assume you're flying on a Tuesday, which is the only day of the week with that 4 hour gap in the afternoon - every other day there's a MAN flight around 6pm.

TBH a 1 hour 40 minute connection T3-T5 should be perfectly doable though, without running.

If something like Manchester, isn't it a similar time to:

Get to train station.
Train to St Pancras (40 mins)
Walk 10 minutes (10)
Train from Euston to Manchester (2:15)

3 hours and 5 minutes. Sure, of course they won't join up. But often you'll be having a 3 hour gap between flights.

BTW, I'd not say it's that quick to go via Heathrow, and more expensive. I get a taxi from Paddington to Euston, because that on the tube can easily take an hour.
