Hi,

so my other half and I have both racked up over 100-130k of miles each and are starting to think about where we should go with them, the original plan was thailand via hong kong but looking at the connecting flights from hong kong to koh samui seemed to take out any value we got from using our miles to get to asia.

So i was wondering if anyone has any good suggestions, we did consider the Caribbean but after reading they weren't
very gay friendly I had to think again.

Suggestions very welcome, we are looking for some beach from luxury.

:)

I've only ever used miles for the Caribbean or New York and I would always recommend the Caribbean, thousands of beautiful places/hotels to visit. I'm a bit confused about your comment though.

being gay is still illegal in a lot of the islands, out of principal I won't go anywhere where its illegal, even if they 'seem friendly enough' 'won't be bothered if you're a tourist'.

You don't say when you are looking to go, so depending on the time of year, what about Florida. The Gulf Coast (Naples/Fort Myers/St Pete's/Clearwater) are all stunning with amazing beaches and some fantastic hotels, restaurants etc.
Personally I would avoid Miami, it's expensive and nowhere near as nice as the other side.

If all you want to do is chill in a nice beach resort then Neil's right, the Gulf coast of Florida is great or how about Key West? A beautiful drive down from Miami (or a short flight but I'd drive if possible), some great hotels & restaurants and a unique laid-back (and gay friendly) vibe.

If you prefer more hardcore clubbing though, Miami's your place.

Miami is great for a few days....... but it may not hold your attention.... so that is good advice to mix it about and get down to Key West or up the Gulf Coast.

Don't forget Gay Friendly Cape Town - the beaches are amazing , the weather is good during our Autumn/Winter , even after Brexit the ZAR is around 18.30 to the £, the food is great, B&B s are first class, overnight flight UC from LHR to Jo'burg then a short hop down to CPT is a much easier trip that it sounds and there is no JET LAG !!

We are doing Hong Kong upper on miles at the end of the year as the start and end of an Asia trip. Avios for Hkg to Hanoi business with dragon air. Amex cashback covered 33% of our Qatar business flights from Hanoi to Bangkok. Picked up some cheapy flight to Koh Samui and then on to Phuket and finally bagged avios flights from Phuket to Hkg with dragon air business again

Also did South Africa on miles last year. Amazing country and well worth it if you can find availability

Key West would be a great place to go. You could fly into Miami and have a few days there then do the drive to Key West on the Overseas Highway. The Keys are not really a beach destination, as the few that are there are mostly man-made, small and rocky but you could get your fill of great beaches in Miami.

Cape Town is another great destination but.....although there are some lovely beaches, even if you go in high summer, the water is way too cold to swim in. It is quite simply...freezing...hence the abundance of penguins!!! I like to think that I am quite a hardy soul but all I could manage, on a scorching hot day, was a quick paddle!!! If you like wine, the Winelands are stunning and the choice of wine estates is staggering.
