Virgin announced a direct flight from Manchester to San Francisco starting next April. I have been checking prices and availability of reward seats waiting till our dates in June are on sale. There has been lots of availability for reward seats in both upper and premium. The direct flights now seemed to have disappeared and the only flights are via Atlanta or New York. There is now no availability for reward flights as they are not direct. Does anyone know if Virgin have cancelled this route.?

Interesting.

VS haven't announced they've cancelled the route - but this week Delta did announce a 6% reduction in UK capacity in response to Brexit, and specifically mentioned Manchester for cuts.

Could just be an IT error of course, and the new Boston route still seems to be operating, as is Vegas.

Hi vic110

I pounced on my P Reward flights out to SFO in May 2017 back in June (I've got G's back from LAS :-D )

The direct flights were showing up on the website until last weekend but then disappeared completely - whether looking for rewards or for cash - and so I too was worried that the route had been pulled. However they still appear(ed) on Expedia, Opodo etc and I can still access my seats via MMB.

As our outbound is the start of another road trip (albeit it shorter than this year's epic!) and hubby & I are beginning to think about routes I had a Twitter chat with the VS team on Friday, and they said that they checked the system and the flights are all loaded in - they're not sure why they're not appearing on the website though (although all V-Flyers know it will be the hamsters ....)

The Twitter team suggested calling to book.

I hope this helps!

They've not been cancelled, just some weird IT business. They can still be booked through the Delta website if you're on a time constraint! Alternatively contact the call centre :)

Could that 6% be a case of DL now planning on using 757s instead of 767s on their MAN-JFK flights? I can't see how VS can downgauge MAN flights without swapping 747s, cancelling one of the double-daily MCO's or generally reducing frequency across the board.

Am I also right in thinking for a short while recently the website showed MAN-DTW direct despite no announcement being made?

I had no difficulty getting two G's for SFO - MAN in April.
I was also lucky enough to get two G's for MAN - LAS in late March.
We decided to head off to SFO for a couple of days and fly back from there because it wouldn't let me get a one way G from LAS to MAN, telling me this was not permitted.
