different plane. different experience?

Hello all, another question from me...
We are flying from LHR to MIA and return in UC next month (both G's ), The outbound flight is a 787-900 and the inbound flight is on an A340-600. I've been trying to work out what the difference is in terms of the type of seat. and general experience. I get a bit confused between dreamliner and UCS etc? can anyone clarify? on both flights we are on the A side towards the front/middle.

Also, I was lucky enough to fly in business with Emirates to Singapore (A380) on a work trip recently,,, the seat was huge with lots of space. Looking at the pictures UC looks much more compact and cosy. Still very much looking forward to it though, especially as its my husbands first time in anything other than EC/PE.

The 787 is a more modern aircraft than the A346. The former is supposed to be a better flying experience, with larger (dimmable) windows and better cabin environment management. Service and seats should be about par, and you may get an A346 which has undergone a bit of a refresh so the seats don't show their age. One significant different is the IFE, which is modern touch screen on the 787 but older on demand on the 346.

There's less surrounding space on the UC seats than on the Emirates A380 seats, and the seat itself may also be slightly narrower. Generally service on VS will be more personal than on Emirates.

Have you selected seats that face the wall on the 346 (9 and up)? On the 787 all the A seats face the wall (the back of the middle row seats), and that layout also means that if so minded you have access to two overhead lockers as you have the one over your A seat plus one over the middle row seat.

Thanks for the info. Yes, we have 10 & 11A on the A340, and 1&2A on the 787 (don't mind being close to the galley on a day flight as I'm nosey!).

To be honest, the biggest impact on the experience will be the crew, and that's something that VS seems to be getting increasingly right.

A good crew covers a multitude of sins!
