Hi guys,

Does anyone know if the Virgin flying club Amex card is eligible for AMEX pre sale tickets for concerts etc?

It looks like you have to enter the customer service number on the back of the card but it doesn't work.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

I don't think so - it isn't a "proper" Amex card, but is issued by MBNA using their branding. if offers a completely different range of benefits to the Amex issued cards.

I did read that MBNA is trying to be sold off again by Bank of America/Merrill Lynch, so we'll have to wait and see if the new owners want to change anything....

As above, 99.99% unlikely, as the VS Amex is not a "proper" Amex card. If you apply for a proper Amex card, one section of the app form asks if you hold any other Amex cards - you can enter your VS Amex number here, but the "Member since" year number on your shiny new Amex card will be the current year (i.e. not reflect the length of time you have held the VS Amex).

Amex changed their customer helplines from 0845 to 0800 numbers about a year ago but didn't re-issue the plastic card. The number on the back of my Platinum card doesn't actually reach Amex anymore.

I wonder if the website is looking for the old 0845 number or the easily googled 0800 number?

I've definitely used mine before for pre-sale and regularly get emails with similar offers. Never heard of having to enter the customer service number before though, the things I've booked have asked for some or all of my card number to verify.

I've used mine for the National Theatre pre-sales. You just pop in the first 4 digits - I don't think the system knows whether it's a VS Amex or an official one - it just knows it's an AMEX.

US version often asks for a customer service number. Google it. then pay with any Amex, never had a problem.
