Hi all,

Got our honeymoon booked for next year. We are annual "leisure flyers" to Orlando from Glasgow.

We are flying out from Manchester 31/8/17 to Vegas, internal flight to Orlando then back on VS72 MCO to GLA.

Travel agent told us the Man flight will be on A333, and Gla flight on usual 744.

We are booked premium economy outbound and upper on the return.

Any recommendations for an upgrade on outbound, and seat choice on both legs?

Many thanks.

How are you looking to upgrade, miles or money? If miles then you'll need to ensure your PE fare is upgradeable and have the 20k miles for each of you then keep checking availability online. If money, then call VS to see what the options are and what they will cost you. If however this is a cheeky how do I get a freebie, then forget that. VS get's loads of "it's my honeymoon" on check in and the likely response will be "congratulations, here's your boarding pass, have a nice flight".

Not expecting a freebie at all, i know these do not exist. I was meaning if there is value for money in using points rather than £?

I should also have asked we have selected 6A and 6K on inbound (744) and 25A & 25C (333) outbound. any advise on seat?

I am booked on a upper class ticket outbound and a W class PE ticket inbound, so one that I can upgrade on. How do I check whether it is upgradeable? I have 40, 000 points too and prefer to use them rather than cash. There are 5 seats still available. Do I call customer services or is there a way to check online? Any help would be appreciated.

What you need is a reward seat.
To check online do a dummy booking for a one way flight in Upper using miles.
They change frequently so it's worth checking several times a day and start early morning. Twice I've got upgrades at 6 am that weren't there when I went to bed the night before.
If seats are available call Flying Club asap.
As to upgrade-able; W is the highest Premium fare code and is fully upgrade-able.
If you go to TOOLS then Ticket fare codes on this site it explains all.
Best of luck.

I can't think of a situation where an upgrade is cheaper with money than with points (plus additional fees) - so always look for the points option first but ensure that your fare is upgradeable. Good advice is to check online, a dummy booking as it is termed which means start a new search for flights in UC on the dates you want selecting miles as the option rather than money, if you see availability then call VS with your booking reference and ask if you can upgrade with miles and what the extra cost will be.

Good luck!

Beware of the information in the fare codes section. It has not been updated to reflect the changes Virgin made on 15 Feb 16.

In Economy, Y B R L U M E Q X are upgradable, N O are not.
In Premium Economy, W S H are upgradable, K P are not.

None of this changes the fact that the poster has a W fare which is still upgradable and always was. I post this to help out others who may be tempted to buy an upgradable fare as listed in the Fare Codes in the Toolbox when a cheaper bucket would have done just as well.

6A & K (when travelling as a couple) are the favorite seats of many v flyers, ourselves included.

Apologies for jumping in on the thread. Looking at this list, can you upgrade an Economy T ticket?

Thanks.

As an Economy T fare is a reward fare, it can only be upgraded using more miles (plus the difference in fees) to either a Premium or an Upper reward fare (and there has to be reward availability in the higher class).

Ditto to that. As a couple it's almost like having your own cabin with no through traffic.
