Hooray! G's booked, a bit earlier than we planned... we were going to book sometime in the new year, but we wouldn't have had enough miles with the new system. We had to be flexible with dates but got 2x G's return to Seattle for next August. two weeks exploring the west coast :-D . Seems availability is going fast as flights though.... we checked out loads of dates and destinations and they seemed to have disappeared fast since the announcement of the changes. I only really get points through the AMex and shops online so would have taken ages to save up the additional 70,000 we would have needed so feeling very relieved. That is my miles wiped out now though so may have to start buying cash fares as there is nooooo way I'm turning right any more!

Well done. Perhaps it may be time to test out the dark side and the very generous 2-4-1. Now VS have peak/offpeak you might find BA more favourable.

yes, we have been thinking of moving to the other side as i think we might run out of destinations on VS. Don't like the look of the seating configurations though.

what is the 2-4-1 scheme? only recent got to grips with one frequent flyer scheme nevermind another!!

2-4-1 is an Amex generated companion voucher. Read more about it here http://www.headforpoints.com/2015/08/31 ... n-voucher/ basically it's a voucher for 2 of you to travel for the price of 1 lot of Avios.

Can anyone recommend a good card to collect either cashback or Avios please? .

Amex BA premium card - there is a annual fee, but they do a 'proper' 241 voucher.
First Class for one to SF would be 170k avios + about £525 in taxes & hidden surcharges... or with the voucher & for 2 :-170k avios + about £1050 in taxes & hidden surcharges.
However, you only get 1.5miles to a £1 spend (no visa supplement card) - so would be looking at spending around £115k for them 2 tickets. However, you could get an amex, hit the bonus miles + 241 voucher, cancel, your wife get a amex, hit the bonus. Then you can look at Lloyds Avios that has other bonus miles to hit. If needed, you could also look at the Free BA AMex just for the mileage bonus.
Finally, you can pool your miles into family account. For shopping portals, you can use the Avios one or BA one & TopCashBack (25% bonus with them) - you can move your avios from BA to Avios to Iberia (241 voucher only good for BA though) if needed.

BA might be priced at a similar level, but the 2 for 1 every so often will effectively give you a club return for 62.5 to 75K. Fair bit more destinations in the US (as well as the rest), Seattle, San Diego, Phoenix, Denver for west coast alone. And Canada!

Saying that we've just redeemed our first rewards for perhaps 4 years on VS pre these changes, over to Boston, back from Washington in UC, next year. I hadn't realised it was over two years since our last VS Upper, to Cancun, and 2 years before that for last upgrade (when they were worth it), to Vancouver. Flown BA longhaul 6 returns since, and two redemptions. That was as much about the drop in service on VS than anything else.

Feeling a bit whistful on seeing the LHR Clubhouse again after that long. Been so long.
