We've opted for some MpM economy fares as now that combi-fares have been abolished, it was either that or pay a lot more for upgradeable fares or buy extra miles for a Ec/PE full reward x2. Previously we would have been able to book UC one way and half price economy the other...

My question is has anyone had experience of upgrading (with cash) a MpM fare at check in to PE (which is the best we can hope for now 100k plus miles down the pan for a few hundred pounds off economy)?

Nearly 300 thread views and no replies. Given how recently the changes were implemented I suspect you may be the first V-Flyer to try. I wish you luck, cash upgrades on the day should still be possible but I might give it some extra time at check-in as I would imagine the staff will not have done this on the new system too many times.

Do keep us updated (and perhaps a TR when you get back?)

Thanks for the reply - seems like it's not something many people have done.

I'll certainly report back here after check in to see if we were able to upgrade to PE!

The new MPM fares are not the same as the old MPM fares though so it should be much easier to upgrade the new type of MPM fares at the airport now.

Basically now MPM fares are just standard fares that have be discounted by using miles as well as cash.

Having just booked a Premium K return fare MAN>JFK using the new system/website, I took the option of discounting the fare cost by ~£120 by using 21,000 miles. Looking at my receipt details, it's still a standard return Premium Economy K fare, it just cost me less money because I used some miles as well.

I read somewhere now that the other big difference is that all the new MPM fares earn miles + TP's - which makes sense because they are just standard fares now.

I never did MPM fares using the old system, but I think they got their own fare separate codes didn't they and *technically* you where never supposed to be able to earn miles or TP's with them either.
