Some good news amongst the FC changes and general website misery: I'll admit that it took an hour on the phone to VS FC... but I was able to book two r/t DL tickets in J for JFK-DKR (Dakar, Senegal), 120k miles and $120 tax/fees per person. Taxes paid, miles taken, VS & DL confirmations received, seats chosen!
DL runs the recently-modified 757-200-75S on the route, so we should get some good rest in the Delta One flat-bed seats.
Especially with the standard/peak FC changes coming up, I foresee spending many more of my VS miles on DL premium cabin redemptions in the future. I still love VS UC, but for an all-miles redemption, ex-UK r/t Delta One to the US Northeast is looking increasingly tempting: 90k VS miles on DL, rather than 95k standard or 115k peak VS miles on VS - or 140k DL miles on DL!
p.s. This post answers my previous one (now deleted) about the JFK-DKR route being off-limits for VS miles redemptions. The VS FC agent I spoke to before was wrong. For DL redemptions using VS miles, my tip is to always call up FC with a list of specific DL flight numbers and dates and go through them one by one. It's time consuming, but I've nearly always had success.
