I'm due to fly out on VS15 on Friday and have been looking for mileage upgrades to PE. I'm told that there are plenty of seats in PE still available to buy but no mileage upgrades are available.

Does anyone know of any particular logic as to when any mileage upgrades might be released?

Also, if they are available on the day, is it better to call the FC on the morning of the flight before heading to the airport or does it have to be done through the ticket desk at the airport?

Thanks.

With the old system, the UK airport ticket desks where able to process a miles upgrade straight off, I think it was generally just non-UK airports that had to make a call to Flying Club.

I've had a Premium Economy reward fare >Upper Class reward fare miles upgrade processed at the concierge desk in the LHR Clubhouse before now as a G fare opened up about an hour before departure.

With the new system, who knows TBH? It may be the same, then again it may not be now!

A gentle reminder that just because there may still be revenue tickets on sale does not automatically mean that miles upgrades will be available.

Also if looking at the seat map that not everyone is obsessed with choosing seats in advance so the cabin may appear emptier than it is.

Happens all the time on the HKG - LHR rtn leg. Outward from LHR, OK, back little availability

I just ask at the check in desk at HKG and so far, on every occasion, I've been able to upgrade using miles. Also has the advantage that I've never been charged taxes/charges either, because it is an airport upgrade. I still try to get the upgrade in advance, but hardly ever any available.

Looking to do the same on my rtn in a few days.

Thanks but I know that. Let's just say I have a access to a little insider information about the loads but my contact hasn't got quite the level of access I need for the FC bits

I managed to get an upgrade at the airport but it was a painful process. The team at Gatwick were great but the new system doesn't let them process FC upgrades at checkin, you have to go to the ticket desk. They then have to call to get it sorted and we were on hold for over 30 minutes.

Talking to one of the senior team they are trying to get that resolved but for now if you want an FC upgrade at the airport, you will need to get there early.

All the upgrades I have done at the airport have been tedious even when the assistant said my ticket was not upgradable until I enlightened him it was a reward seat ticket and maybe if he spoke to FC they will explain. Well done on the upgrade :-D
