Hi all

We are flying LHR to DTW on Friday in Premium, returning in Upper.

There are no reward upgrades available at the moment, but the Virgin system allows 8+ seats to be booked in Upper, so there MAY be availability still in Upper outbound.

Now I am fully aware that paid fares take priority etc etc, BUT ... if we did want to ask about a miles upgrade from Premium to Upper at Heathrow on Friday morning, whats the best way to do it? When we check our bags in? Or go straight to ticketing / somewhere else?

We're getting to the airport nice and early and we have the miles to upgrade, just want to give us the best chance. All help welcome, thank you.

I have upgraded with miles at the Airport to Orlando of all places - so it can be done :D

My advice would be to go to ticketing in the first instance.

I've heard rumours of being able to do it AFTER check in, in the Clubhouse. But this is mere speculation as I have not done it myself. Theoretically, if there are G's available, then they will be available before check in as well. I suspect seeing them once in the Clubhouse is just a case of not actually checking online before checking in.

When Iwent to New York in May there was a seperate desk beside the checkin desk for upgrading.

I have seen signs at the boarding gate about upgrades. So maybe ask at every opportunity! Even when seated on the plane if you have to!

when i've upgraded at the airport, most successful has been...

get there early, go direct to the ticket desk, hope for the best

i once missed bagging the last UC seat, perhaps because i first asked at check-in, they said "one left", it was gone by the time i was at ticketing!

if the original tickets were booked direct with VS, as well as checking online i'd also try calling FC and asking the day before
