Connection time in Abu Dhabi.

Hi, My friends son (18) is going to Australia for a year on a football sponsorship scheme. She has found a good price booking with Virgin Australia but flying on etihad metal all the way.
The only connection is in Abu Dhabi, which only has a connection time of 2hrs 20. My questions are -

Is this enough time to catch the other flight?
Will they be in transit? Will they have to change terminals etc?
In fact any information on connections would be greatly appreciated.
