Hi - we are using miles to fly down to FLL, but are having to fly via JFK to be able to use them (paying cash for the second leg).

We are on the VS003 this Thursday, arriving at JFK 12.00, with our connecting DL flight 2065 departing at 3.59.
Similarly on the way back we fly from FLL on DL46 at 12.13, arriving at JFK at 3.10 for our VA 004, departing at 6.30.

Would anyone know if theses flights share the same terminal in JFK, if not would the skyway train be the best option or the Delta shuttle bus for the transfers, and timing wise, do they look 'OK'? I booked the flights separately, so would my bags be able to be checked in all the way home (I don't think they can on way out, since it is my first entry to the US, but unsure for way home - it would be convenient if this was possible!)?

Many thanks.

Ian.

Hey,

DL internal flights depart JFK from both T4 and T2. Looking at yesterday's and today's flight, the DL2065 departed from T2 for both of them, so I'd say that's an indication it's likely to be T2. I'm not sure if you have to pay to use the SkyTrain for inter-terminal changes, but in the past I have rechecked and cleared security in T4 and then taken the Delta Jitney to T2 which was pretty quick.
I think with a four hour layover you should be fine with both options :)

As far as interlining your bags for the way back - it's possible, given the partnership they may be more inclined.

When you arrive on Thursday you will need to clear US immegration and customs. Even if your bags are tagged through you still need to collect them to clear customs and then drop them off again.

There is no charge for using the air train for getting to different terminals.

As you will then be landslide you would need to reclear security.

On the return it should be easier as you can then do an airside transit - assuming your bags are checked through to LHR that is.

As you are on separate tickets you are not on a connection with the protections that would give. E.g. If your DL flight was delayed and you missed the VS4 VS would be under no obligation to rebook you onto another flight for free.

using 'VA' could cause confusion as V America also use JFK T4. V Atlantic flights are coded 'VS'
