Something that doesn't happen every week.....I see G-VXLG has positioned over to LHR this afternoon to operate the VS001.

That will have been some interesting seating rejigging I bet!

Sorry forgive my ignorance but why will that necessitate seating re jig ? Whats the difference between that plane and the plane that should have flown that route ?

G-VXLG is a LGW/MAN based B744 so is in the leisure seat config of 14J/66W/375Y which doesn't fit LHR operations very easily having low J seat numbers and high Y seat numbers.

It will be replacing either a A333 (33J/48W/185Y), A346 (45J/36W/233Y) or a B789 (31J/35W/198Y).

I wonder if she'll cover at LHR for a while.

Now we're into January there's some slack in the LGW schedule (only one MCO flight a day for example) and if the A330 UC refit programme is, as reported, finally getting underway maybe a 747 will be covering for a few weeks.

Always possible - VXLG was originally a LHR based 747 (not that this is relevant really now it's in LGW/MAN leisure config). It will have to be very tactfully deployed route-wise given the low J seat count (under half of a normal LHR based aircraft). It does, however, have close on double the W seating of the A346 / B789 though, so with very careful planning & advance looking at likely loads, VS Ops could avoid annoying too many passengers.
