A very good evening from the LHR CH where I have just enjoyed a clubhouse burger with copious amounts of water and juice (joeyc on the Dry January train)

As many will have gathered from my hijack of buns' greeting from the clubhouse thread a couple of days ago, I was due to be flying out on the VS400 yesterday. Sadly it was cancelled due to the promise of snow storms, the scope of which many in the Himalayas could only imagine. Well after an evening of light drizzle around Heathrow I am so glad that they cancelled the flight.. people could have died.

VS rebooked me onto tonight's flight and have also been able to shift my return flight by a few days too so I don't miss any holiday time. Transfers were also quickly rearranged thanks to the guys over at BlackLane and the hotel in Dubai confirmed there would be no penalties for the modifications to the booking and that they would do all they could to ensure my room was ready despite the early morning arrival. Excellent customer service and assistance from all involved.

Very little delay with the journey to the airport, but the check in desks were quite busy. Shift change is all that was to blame and after a bit of unsuccessful back and forth about mileage upgrades (vflyer optimism) I stepped into the lift to find the wing door wouldn't let me in... and no kicking it didn't work. Pressed the buzzer and open it did. Security channel was fairly empty and after the customary ride in the lift, here I sit, enjoying the hospitality of the clubhouse. It is fairly busy, but I've seen worse.

What are peoples' thoughts on the applicability of EU261 financial comp in my situation?

Joey

From all accounts / social media I am reading over here, it looks as though it was a non event in the London area

Hope the Clubhouse looks after you as much as they did me & Mrs Buns ;-) ;-) ;-)

I hope you have no further delays and enjoy a good flight. I trust you won't have to beware of succumbing to sunstroke after your miraculous survival of the blizzard

Sadly, you've probably more chance of finding the VS website working perfectly.

Snow or no snow, airlines were told to reduce their flying programme as a precaution so definitely out of VS's control.

Have a great flight.

Glad to hear you are safely tucked away in comfort! I did have chuckle (not at your expense of course) at the gross overreaction of the weather. I've seen more white stuff dusted on cakes than I did on Thursday.

I always snigger when I drive past the LHR "snow base" thinking to myself that the airport will react in its tradtional fashion and flights will just be cancelled.
