Virgin website isn't the clearest is it?

G CLASS - Cancellations must be made at least 24 hours prior to departure for refund to apply.
Generally all miles will be refunded, subject to a GBP 30.00 fee. Taxes etc. will also be refunded but see below.

I CLASS - It looks like the cancellation charge is £200.00. However the text runs into another section about illness so worth double checking.

For both fares, VS website has this ominous message: CARRIER IMPOSED SURCHARGES WILL NOT BE REFUNDED.

That is a very ominous message indeed, given that the "Carrier Imposed Surcharge" just happens to be practically the same amount as the old Fuel Surcharge (which the airlines had to drop when the cost of fuel fell). So VS are potentially saying they'll keep the fuel surcharge even if you don't fly.

Early last year I had to cancel a PE reward ticket and got all the miles back, plus all the taxes/fees/charges less the £30 admin fee. The miles were re-credited to my account whilst on the phone to flying club, the refund to my credit card took about a week.

I cancelled my 'G' in late October and (eventually) got the whole of the taxes, fees and surcharges back. The miles were returned virtually immediately.

It took almost 8 weeks and 3 phone calls and was given the excuses of 'the hurricane' and 'the refund system isn't working today'.

On the 3rd call I made clear my expectations on a time scale for the refund and that I didn't expect the cancellation fee to apply. The refund took slightly longer to reach my CC but the fee wasn't docked.

I only cancelled instead of rebooking because I knew I'd get the whole lot back and before I cancelled I double checked with the phone agent that that was the case.
