UC toilet “policy” on A330?

We’ve (luckily) been flying on routes that have used the Dreamliner in the past couple of years; just got off of our first A330 flight in a while and we (and many other UC Pax) were slightly annoyed that there was ONE tiny washroom for UC for basically 75% of the flight (on the K side between PE and UC). The curtain was pulled in favour of PE for the toilet on the A side and the single washroom at the front of the plane was “out of use” for most of the flight as the cabin crew needed to “work in that area” - seriously? Why have a washroom there at all if that is the case? After some huffing and puffing they opened it up for the mad rush at the end of the flight but there was still long waits in line. Curious if this is the norm. Frankly, I don’t pay business class prices to share one washroom between 30 or however many people .....

Yes, that often the case on the A333's, as that area at the front is often the make-shift crew rest area with the A333's not having any separate crew rest area.

There are 2 washrooms on the K side between Upper and Premium.

I don't mean to sound picky here, but what's stopping you using the other washroom on the A side past the curtain or even one of the others further down the cabin? There's at least another 4 washrooms in the economy cabin on the A333's.

My partner asked the crew if it was okay to pass through the curtain to use the second ‘k’ side washroom and was told “techinically that one is reserved for Premium Economy but if nobody is waiting then okay”. Shouldn’t have to feel like we are “breaking the rules”. Seems mad to me that PE have 2 designated washrooms PLUS the ones at the back shared with economy whilst UC makes do with just one.

Ditto, when you gotta go, you gotta go.... plus they switched out the Noble Isle 'Rhubarb Rhubarb' hand wash to a different scent...

As someone who lives in the 'Rhubarb triangle' and knowing the farm Noble Isle use for the 'Rhubarb' this was painful the first time I noticed it had been removed and replaced....

And to think of all the times in the past that complaints were made on here about PE passengers skipping through the curtain to use the UC washrooms and the crew did nothing about them! Talk about role reversal!

Can’t believe they switched though: I’d often pop the the UC lavs just to wash my hands. Happy I’m not alone. Lol

ISTR that at one time on the A330 some flight deck crews would request that the forward lavatory be locked out of use due to it's proximity to the flight deck as it causes pax to loiter outside the flight deck door. This, along with the fact that there is no crew rest area on the A330 makes blocking off the forward galley & lavatory an obvious option to give the crew a semi-quiet area to take their breaks in.

I personally cannot see the proximity to the flight deck argument, as most aircraft have forward lavatories close to the flight deck door.

It's the loitering that's the issue. On a few recent US flights (Norwegian and AA) there were specific announcements about it being illegal for pax to gather in galley/loo areas.
Probably to do with the amount of oxygen masks available in that area.

No need to panic!! There's a washroom at the front and back of the J cabin on the A332's.

Again though no idea if these A/C have a proper crew rest area or not and so the front one may also be blocked off as per the A333's

I'll wait a little while but if it gets mission critical then I will take the appropriate action whatever class of cabin. What really gets my back up is when I see someone going in there to change clothes, and with a makeup bag that wouldn't look out of place on a film set, go in there and then spend ages putting on make-up, whilst I and others stand there with crossed legs.

Worst flight I have had toilet-wise was an inbound EK flight to MAN. The 2 J class toilets were both "in use" for the best part of 10mins (one person in each toilet, I hasten to add - nothing dodgy!) Queues were forming and the crew were physically blocking the route to the F cabin to stop J pax from trying to go forward and use toilets in a higher cabin. No point going down the back to Y as the queue would be longer there.

One of the pax who emerged from a toilet had a large makeup bag not dissimilar to that mentioned by Silver Fox (above). Why you need pristine makeup for a 7pm ish arrival into MAN is beyond me.

On the flip-side, on a MCO-MAN flight on VS I was on, one pax could not even be bothered with using the toilets to change into a sleepsuit - stripped right down to his boxers standing up by his seat, put the sleepsuit on & clothes into the overhead bin. This was before takeoff & the crew seemed a bit bemused - I just accepted the champagne refill & looked out of the window.

Just a quick point regarding the make up bags, I have a colostomy bag, I keep my spare supplies for the flight in something that looks similar to a make up bag, and in an airplane toilet it can take a while to change said appliance.
