Hi, I’m new to all this. I have been collecting miles for a while and just about to hit the 100k mark.
Looking at LGW - BGI at the end of November this year and wanted to fly 2 of us UC outbound (using miles) and economy / PE back paying cash.
There’s currently no reward seats left in UC. I hear they sometimes release further reward seats nearer the flight. Realistically, what my chances of bagging 2 UC rewards seats last minute?

May I be the first to welcome you to V-Flyer Shifty, 100k miles is an impressive haul for an opening post - clearly you are doing something right :D

Miles one way and revenue fare the other (as a return ticket) is what used to be called a combi fare and, sadly, is no longer available. The only way to do what you want directly is to book the miles fare and pay for a one-way home which may well be prohibitively expensive :(

Buying an Economy or PE return and trying to use miles to upgrade individual legs may be an option however. If you do this, pay attention to the booking classes to make sure you are buying an upgradable fare.

As to whether UC reward seats will become available, nobody knows. The logic of reward seats is deliberately opaque to protect revenue :(

That makes sense. Thanks for the advice, will probably look at booking return Economy (X i think will be the cheapest) and trying to upgrade from there.
As for the miles, I have the black credit card and have been saving for a while ;-)

As you say X would be the cheapest Economy offering. I'm in somewhat the same boat trying to book the end of Nov on a 2-4-1 with Avios and there's no availability with a significant competitor >-(

It will be interesting to see if the newer booking options help with upgradable booking classes and reward availability. https://blog.virginatlantic.com/virgin- ... y-economy/
