We travelled back from Montego Bay yesterday and were asked at check in if we would voluntarily downgrade to PE due to a couple of faulty seats in UC. After a little consideration and a lovely offer of free return Upper Class flights to anywhere on the virgin network we decided why not! Never thought we would get to fly UC again so thought we would jump on the chance with the sacrifice of not getting a bed on overnight flight ( FYI we only paid £900 return for UC so didn’t really feel like we were losing out on too much!) We ended up sitting front row in the bubble so had quite a comfortable flight back.

My question is has anyone had this experience before and what was the process like booking your free flights? I see on our voucher it says G which is rewards so I’m assuming we can only fly on select flights where these are available?

We’d love a trip to San Francisco in the new year so hoping we could use it on that but having a look at the dates we want to go there are no fares available for miles.

Any insight would be appreciated!

Welcome to V-Flyer.

I have no experience of the vouchers you have, though that does sound like a very good deal. ;-)
I do however have lots of experience of booking G's.
On my experience you have the most success if you book early, have a good degree of flexibility, be persistent and if you are looking at popular holiday spots - avoid school holidays where possible.
If you are set on San Francisco - keep trying. G's can appear at any time for T-330 days right up to the day of the flight.
If you can't get the dates you want, you could also consider flying into LAX, as G's are historically more common to LA. It is easy to hop up the coast, or even have a road trip.

Good luck - I hope you get the flights you want.

Sounds like a great deal to me - I was on this fligh, in upper and I would have taken that.

Interesting though as the upper cabin was full, with no signs of faults anywhere...

They did keep changing their mind between it being overbooked and a faulty seat! Think we were first at the check in desk! We decided to believe there faulty seat story as that was the case on our outbound flight as well. Whoever got seats 9k and 10k were the lucky ones I guess as they were our seats... unless they would have taken the offer as well!

Bit jealous you got the bed though... didn’t get much sleep last night!
