Just booked a business class rtn ticket LHR to Kuala Lumpur, via Helsinki and Tokyo

The price was good, I had the time, it gets a few extra TP, I've never been to Helsinka or Narita airports, but mostly I enjoy the fact that I can't be reached on a plane! Free time to chill and catch up

Set me wondering - what's the longest unnecessary route anyone has taken?

Only one rule - had to be choice. :-D :-D

Went to Melbourne, Aus. from the US by flying:
JFK to OSL to AMS to SIN to MEL.

Did it in the reverse on the way home and spent a night in Oslo each time before embarking on the next leg. It certainly wasn't the most direct but got loads of TPs flying Singapore Airlines business for most of the trip. The reasoning was it saved us thousands of dollars to fly business from Oslo versus the US even with the flight there and hotel, etc. Got a mini vacation in Oslo to break it up too!

Funny you posted this today, just arrived in Helsinki from LHR, onto DOH tomorrow night, 6 hour layover, then flying into Haneda. Longest route I've ever taken, and it was to take advantage of Qatar Airways incredible sale they had at the end of last year, business class 787 down to DOH, then business A350 to Haneda, excited. First time flying Qatar business and all I hear is good things, first time on the A350 as well.
