From the literature the Horizon card will also give you 0.5% cash back on your overseas purchase which I don’t think the Halifax Clarity card gives. 0.5% is still better than 0% on cash back.

The exchange rate will be driven by Visa/ MasterCard. (Depending which one it is) Which is normally pretty much bang on the spot rate.

Don’t forget it has 0 fees on forex. If you don’t have another card like that it’s worth keeping for overseas spend. That combined with the .5% cash back make it arguably the best card for spend abroad.

Will hold on to the new Horizons card like others, to use abroad, no brainer that one if there are no charges. Have applied and been accepted for the Virgin Money Reward Card so will still be able to carry on earning those much needed miles points thank goodness. My thanks to you lot, because I didn't know Virgin did a reward card. :-D

Previously we’ve earned some good bonuses by signing up to the MBNA credit card in the Clubhouse. We need to apply for the new Virgin Money credit cards and just wondered if anyone has seen anyone offering sign up bonuses in the clubhouse for these? Flying in two weeks so we could wait or just sign up now.

Will be keeping the Horizon card for the lack of foreign transaction fees.

I got the same letter last week. I already have a Nationwide Select Credit Card that gives me 0% fees on foreign transactions and I don't use credit cards to withdraw cash abroad, so I won't be sticking around for the Horizon card as it isn't offering me any significant benefits over anything else I've got already. I'll get an application for the new card sorted in due course.

Just a note on those of you getting declined for the new Virgin Money Cards - one of the possibilities could be that until you close you account officially with MBNA, the amount of credit limit you have on those cards is factored into the decision (whether you have a zero balance or you are max'd out). Any other cards/overdraft facilities you may have are also taken into consideration so, for example, if you have 3 credit cards with 3 different suppliers with a total credit limit of £10,000 on each, your total credit 'exposure' is £30,000. Once you factor in overdraft limits, and any lending you have such as personal loans, you may find difficulty in being accepted for more 'credit'. This is by no means a black mark about your credit worthiness but more about your ability to repay if you were to max out all your available credit availability.

I also asked about this on another thread yesterday. Apparently our existing cards will still work until October , they just won't be miles earning. I think we can only assume that they will be sending us the replacement Horizon card soon. I'm going to keep my Horizon when it arrives, but only for foreign spend as have now got the new Virgin Money Mastercard for earning VS miles.

Thanks - I knew the existing cards stop earning miles after 7th, and naively assumed the Horizon cards would be sent out or be received by then. Silly me,that would be too organised! I doubt I will actually use the card, as I use the Halifax Clarity card for overseas use, but was just curious to see ifo5ers had had theirs yet.

I noticed yesterday that my online MBNA account now has had all the VS branding removed and it now says Horizon.

Also my 2 PE upgrade vouchers have posted to my FC account today instead of the end of August which would be my annual renewal, (so theres 4 in my FC account and they'll get used very shortly :-D ) theres also a credit from MBNA which i guess is the pro rata refund for the annual fee.

The miles from this months spend on the old VS MBNA haven't posted yet, nor have i received my new Horizon card.

Interestingly enough if i access my new Horizon online account it says there are 2 cards associated with it, an amex which ends the same 4 digits as my VS amex and a visa which is the last 4 digits of my VS visa. So i guess as yet the old cards can still be used but just wont earn any FC miles

Same here with the exception of the fee refund. I'm hoping the points for the final period post ASAP as I want to book a redemption but the availability is gradually being snapped up!!

Fingers crossed they are waiting for transactions on Friday to clear then can issue points.

Been using my old cards over the weekend, no probs at all but obviously won't earn miles from Saturday I think.

Received some PIN numbers from MBNA yesterday. Someone I know contacted MBNA and they said the new Horizon card should be all sent out by early August. In the meantime you can still use your existing Amex/VISA but still receive the Horizon benefits.

I noticed yesterday that my FC miles from the current statement period were posted to my FC account, 6 days ago (same day my PE upgrade vouchers posted) but no statement has been generated, my MBNA account still shows transactions so I'm awaiting a statement, it also shows activate card and the last 4 digits of the card are different to my current cards, so I guess the new one is on the way ! :-D

Bank card exchange rates are generally better in my experience.
