I’d be very very surprised if you got away with doing that. I’ve had Flying Club points deducted in the past for genuine credit card refunds or credits.

Our current Virgin cards (black) are in my husband's name and I am an additional card holder. We will be keeping the current cards for as long as possible - our expiry date is currently 05/20

However, as I am the one with Au status and he is my supplementary Ag, it would obviously be best if, when applying for the new card, the account was in my name.

Unfortunately, I have little income, just an amount from a rental property of £600 pcm. However, his income is north of average and we currently have a high CC limit. We also have a joint bank account.

I was just going to apply anyway as it does ask for household income too but I can't see any information regarding additional cards i.e. one for him.

Has anyone who has already applied been given a additional card or is there information on the that site I have missed?

Jilly

I have spoken to Virgin Atlantic about this. Oli Byers said - and this is now policy, although they hadn't thought of it until I flagged it - that if one of the passengers is Gold, even if they are not the cardholder, you will be able to use the 241 in UC.

This also means - if a couple EACH trigger a 241 and only one of the couple is Gold - you can still book UC for a family of four.

Just wanted to give an update regarding the above.

My husband applied the the Rewards+ card with myself as an additional card holder. He put my FC number into the application. However, the CC limit was ridiculously low (£3300 instead of £20K with the present Virgin card) which he immediately questioned and it will take 30 days for them to review.

Unfortunately, although the application was approved he has since received an email asking him to correct the FC number as it does not match.

I have called Virgin Atlantic and asked what, if anything, we can do and what the rules are. I have today been told that as the card will be in his name that we will NOT receive the UC 241 voucher and those are the rules. I did mention this site and the conflicting information and she said she would give feedback to her supervisors.

My husband will call Virgin Money this afternoon and I will update if anything changes although I think it's most likely that I will have to apply for the card in my name instead.

You may be surprised Jilly, I have only a small pension and my husband is the major earner.

I actually have a better credit limit on all my cards than he has, the BA amex keeps upping my credit limit its now up to £20,000, although I only get in not much more than you.

I have several cc all with silly limits on them and every day our bank or cc keeps offering us loans of some sort. I have never checked my credit file, although we do pay all our cards off each month and we do still have a large mortgage. Linda

You need to card in front of you as the Boingo registration link asks you for your 16 digit card number.

Not used mine yet and I'm still trying to find out if Boingo is an option for on-board WiFi on VS flights.

Thanks @mitchja - I think I'll sign up for it, as after a quick look on their website, it seems that it will automatically connect with the phone app (similar to the way the BT app works).

It's not *that* common now, but I remember a few years ago having to pay for wifi access in places like airports.

It does seem ridiculous really doesn't it Linda? I think we're actually not enough of a risk as we always pay in full and don't want to transfer any balances, have a high joint income and don't have a mortgage anymore.

His card/s on now on the way, might be worth activating for the sign up bonus but other than that we can't see the point of keeping those. We'll look at other options and any suggestions are appreciated.

I've applied in my name now along with him as an additional card holder and been accepted, only £1K limit but will just pay off the balance weekly to earn as many miles as possible for the UC 241 offer. Fortunately won't need to book anymore flights for around 6 months so hopefully I can get the card limit increased by then.

Boingo works perfectly on-board VS flights :D When you get to the screen offering the choices for buying WiFi access just choose the Roaming Partner option and then Boingo is available in the list and you just login with your Boingo details. Also no 150mb limit like the paid option so you can happily use it however much you want.

That's great news. Thanks for the info. I was hoping this would be the case

@jilly. Regarding credit limits. Ask an existing card to reduce your credit limit, such as the older Virgin card on which you mention £20K. A credit consideration will be overal unsecured credit. Often an organisation will be more sympathetic to an increase once other credit availability is reduced.

I applied for and got the new card (free one) but I am having terrible trouble logging onto my account. Every time I try to log in it tells me I have the wrong password/code when I KNOW it is correct! Anyway, I change both yet again and still am told my password and code are wrong. I am also annoyed that I don't think I was given the option of mailed statements or paperless and yet I seem to have passed the payment date and have been charged interest! I will be returning this card straightaway and stick to the proper Gold Amex instead!

PDF statements are the default setting, however, you can request paper statements from Virgin Money, though the option for this is only available once you get logged in.

I’m sure though if you ring Virgin Money, they can arrange this for you.

Just a bit of an update and other info. My husbands CC limit had already been doubled when we went online to activate the cards - will probably apply for more once the Virgin Amex ends but no rush.

As said above, the system defaults to PDF statements, which is fine with us. However, I also noticed that the DD payments defaulted to 'minimum payment' so changed to full payment on statement balance. Thought that was worth mentioning if it hasn't been already and could be easily missed.

Turquoise,
I also had a lot of trouble logging on but I think it was my own fault.
I don't like having to choose 2nd 4th 6th place of a password, especially where I have made the password complicated.
I got there in the end after one forced change of password because I'd tried too many times.

You will have to apply for either of the new Virgin Atlantic cards issued by Virgin Money.

The same with me - my application was accepted on 2nd June and I had a confirmation email immediately saying that they would be in touch to let me know when my cards would arrive. Nothing as yet...
I’m guessing it’s maybe the sheer volume of applications which is causing the delay?
There is an 0800 number on that email which I may call early next week if I’ve still not heard anything by then.

I did mine on the 31st May and I’m still waiting. Getting repeated emails telling me to activate my card, I would love if I actually have the card.

The miles (including the bonus sign-up ones) will be credited to your Flying Club account the same day your monthly card statement is generated, so approx. 4 weeks after receiving the card.

Just an update for anyone concerned that their card/s have not arrived yet...
I received mine today after applying and being approved for them on June 1st so it is taking around 2 weeks from application to delivery.
