Just tried to do OLCI for my flight to MCO tomorrow. Entered by booking ref & departure airport and then get the message: "We can't check you in online, because government regulations require that you check in at the airport."

Does this mean I've been SSSS'd? Before the OLCI system would check you in and take all your API details, but refuse to issue a boarding pass if you'd been SSSS'd.

I believe the US authorities require airlines to check in - or at least verify the API details of - a certain proportion of passengers in person.

Whether that’s linked to SSSS I don’t know. But assuming your ESTA or visa is all in order I wouldn’t be overly concerned.

As you mentioned, SSSS does usually still let you check-in, it just won’t issue you a mobile boarding pass. Well it let it has in the past whenever I’ve been SSSS’d

In March, when I went to do OLCI for both of us mine went through ok, hubby's would not. It said the same as yours and he was frisked at the table in the departure gate. Great fun not! Linda

Twice in the last six months, when travelling with friends who had not flown with VS before or been to the USA on an ESTA, neither of them could be checked in online. When they got their boarding passes, they had SSSS on them, so they were searched again just before boarding.

Checked in fine at the airport - no questioning before the desk, or at the desk other than the normal "how many bags are you checking?" and taking my API details. Boarding pass does have those 4 stupid letters on though, so some G4S monkey (highly trained in counter-terrorism... and being paid little over the minimum wage) will be going through my stuff at the gate.

It's a joke, but they have to do it to keep The Donald happy.
