Quick Info Re JFK Sky Club Access For The Carribean

Just some info as seen a few people talking about this route as there's sometime great fares.

We booked an upper class round trip LHR-JFK-MBJ with the JFK to Jamaica section on Delta First (we had 4 nights in NYC so wasn't a same day transfer). A Delta First ticket to the Caribbean DOES NOT get you access to the Sky Club.

Was a surprise to us but is apparently it is in their Ts & Cs so beware if planning it. Luckily one of our party had contacted Delta by email to check if we would get access and they (wrongly) told us we would - so after a lengthy argument with the lounge dragon, her supervisor came over and let us in to prevent a bigger scene

flying F on DL on domestic routes (and they include some routes to Canada, Mexico and Caribbean as being domestic) and indeed with most US airlines does not automatically give you lounge access. Over there other than for a few premium routes it's all done via status (or pay to enter) not your cabin.

If you have been flying JFK-MBJ the same day as your arrival in to JFK then you would have gotten in no problem.

You were lucky you had the email as the DL agent was correct in refusing you access.

Yeh I understand, was just a head up for anyone unaware and planning a similar trip. Not that you would be missing much in the Delta Sky Club anyway tbh

It is a good benefit of BA (or any OW excluding AA) status to be able to use AA lounges when flying domestic!

Yes it is. Particularly now that AA are upping their game when it comes to lounges at their main hubs. Even BA silvers have access to the new premium Flagship lounges at JFK, MIA, LAX and ORD. When LHR follows later this year BA’s own T3 offering will almost certainly be the worst of the four OW lounge complexes at its own home airport!

And the AA flagship lounges at JFK and ORD are very good indeed - especially at JFK if they invite you to use 'The Bridge' rather than the main section.

So just to check (and make sure I don't embarrass myself when the time comes)...

1, LHR to ATL on VS in UC and then ATL to MSY same day on DL in F can I use Sky Club in ATL?

2. MSY to DTW on DL in F and then DTW to LHR same day on DL in Delta One can I use Sky Club in MSY?

My son & I are both flying on VS109 Man-ATl (in upper) then ATL to BNA (in first). My son could only get the earlier flight to BNA. Can he use the delta sky club in BNA while he waits for me?

Officially no, as lounge access is for departing passengers only. But he can ask and hope for a friendly agent.

I don't think that will work will it as the Delta Sky Club is airside at BNA, whilst he could stay airside when he lands, he'd still need to collect his luggage so will have to go landslide to do that and once he does that, he cannot then go back airside without a boarding pass.

He is travelling with hand luggage only because of the tight connection time in ATL.

Ah yes! This thread reminds me so much of our experience way back in 2003 when we were flying Delta from HNL back to SFO in First. At check-in when asking if we had lounge access, we were told no as it was only for those with status with DL. OK, we sucked it up and took up residence in the main lounge. Aer John, who was then a lad of 14 years went off exploring and some 15 minutes later came back claiming that we could get into the lounge! When we arrived there, there the staff said they shouldn't really let us in but they couldn't resist his big blue eyes and his cute Irish accent!

Mind you, the lounge was nothing to write home about, in common with most US lounges!
