Just a heads-up for anyone heading to MAN, especially if you are dropping passengers off or picking them up.

MAN has now introduced passenger drop off / pick-up charges at all terminals, full details can be found here

The only official free drop-off location is marked on the map looks to be near where the JetParks carparks look to be though I can imagine what going to happen now as people will be dropping off / picking up at any place they can now now find away from the terminals causing even more congestion than there was before >-(

That should be interesting. I will be there tomorrow morning so will see if I notice any difference.

But it does say "From early July, Manchester Airport is introducing a tarriff for dropping off. " so did they introduce it early?

Sorry yes, various articles about this online are all saying it was going to be June so maybe it's not in operation yet? It does look like it's been put back now from June to July.

The free drop off / pick-up area is indeed where Jet Parks 1 is!

Am sure I read somewhere that the drop-off charges were already in operation at MAN T1.

At MAN T2 two weeks ago (9th June), the exit barriers / pay machines on the exit of the drop off area were all in situ (so I am told) but not turned on & with all the barriers in the up position for free exit. I am told the installation looked finished - just waiting for someone to flick the switch and turn it on.

I fully agree that these charges will just make many people drop off close to the terminals on the airport roads to avoid paying. This - along with all the road changes around MAN due to the T2 redevelopment will just cause even more chaos.

A few years ago, EMA (also part of MAG group) used to offer 15mins free parking for drop-off / pick-up, with no return allowed within 30mins [enforced by ANPR] to stop people driving out of the carpark & back in for another free 15mins. This worked well as if dropping off 15mins was more then enough. If picking up you could park in the nearby Moto services for free and wait for the call from whoever you were collecting when they were outside the terminal - you then made the couple of mins drive to pick them up for free as you needed less than 15mins.

Well they don't seem to know themselves at the moment, one part says July, and this http://www.manchesterairport.co.uk/park ... d-drop-off says:

Drop-off areas are located directly outside the terminal building at departures level. So, you can pull up right outside, where you can touch down just long enough to unload luggage.

From mid June, Manchester Airport is introducing a tariff for dropping off at the airport. All passengers can use our free drop off area, from which a shuttle bus will transport you free of charge to your terminal. Alternatively, you can choose to be dropped off directly outside the terminals and train station. The charge for this is £3 for five minutes and £4 for 10 minutes.

There is then a link to here https://www.manchesterairport.co.uk/pic ... -off-info/ which says:

From early July, Manchester Airport is introducing a tarriff for dropping off.

Should I write to them about the spelling of tarriff? :)

Just a thought, but have they also introduced charges at the small drop-off zone for Radisson Blu?

I ended up dropping off my girlfriend there for her flight one afternoon last year because the queue up to T2 departures was a joke and backing up all the way to the turn-off from the M56 spur, so I naughtily realised you can drop-off downstairs and get a lift up to the walkway that connects T2 with the Radisson Blu and the station. I dread to think what the queue's like now given the redevelopment works are in full swing.

At LPL, they have signs warning drivers of a fine of £100 if caught stopping on the roads where there are double red lines (which is literally everywhere). This is enforced as there's someone in a small van parked by the roundabout and last December I saw them drive off to book someone who had stopped on a double red line near the terminal. It wouldn't surprise me if something similar is implemented at MAN, particularly if it becomes a serious issue with congestion and travellers crossing roads with children and luggage.

At least at LPL there is a car park which allows people to park for free for up to 40mins which is great for picking up/dropping off, though it is a 5min walk to the terminal. The multi-storey that's closer and the Express Pick-up/Drop-off car park all have high rates that go up quickly.
