Wondering if anyone has had much experience of the below...

I wanted to upgrade my parents outbound flight to JFK next year from premium to upper. I rang up FC this morning to enquire how many miles this would cost. I was already named on my parents booking so they could pull that exact one up. The woman informed me that it would cost 53,800 miles plus taxes.

I was a little short so I went away and purchased the additional miles I needed for the upgrade. Rang back to actually do it and it turns out the upgrade only cost 47,400 miles.

Due to the way the mileage purchases work with the current 30% bonus I ended up purchasing c5k miles for absolutely no reason and therefore being £75 out of pocket.

I highly doubt I have any choice but to just sit on the miles now, but has anyone had any experience of this before?

Not sure about the upgrade, however, miles purchases can be refunded as you do get the standard 14 day cooling off period, from this page:

Members will have the right to cancel any purchase of miles for up to 14 days after the date of purchase, provided that none of the purchased miles have been redeemed. If any of the purchased miles have been redeemed then members will not be entitled to a refund for any of the purchased miles including those that have not been redeemed. Once the 14 day cooling off period has expired, any miles purchased and received by members are non-refundable and non-transferable, except as expressly permitted by the terms and conditions of Flying Club.

Thought that might be the case! Unfortunately I have redeemed some of the miles (the ones I actually needed)!

Yes I had this last month.

I had 2x JFK-LHR tickets each at 17.5k Our upper for the outbound cost 47.5k. In my head that meant I needed 30k to upgrade both to G.

Rang and spoke to two separate advisers and both times was quoted 23.5k for an upgrade (might have it slightly off). On both occasions I explained it was a PE Reward that I was upgrading. I was fairly certain that they were wrong, but I haven't booked miles tickets since the "enhancements" to FC. Both advisers explained that the reason I thought it was 30k was cos I was confusing Peak and Off Peak.

I thought who was I to know. The second adviser put the G's on hold and told me to wait till my Miles Booster posted to ring back to complete. Called back the next day when the miles posted and got an adviser who then explained the other two were wrong.

I had to argue it with VS, and ended up speaking to their Duty Manager, who was absolutely fantastic, extremely apologetic and honoured the lower rate (of sorts).

I wouldnt trust the first or second answer given, check the website and T&Cs' yourself and dont trust anything till you have an E-Ticket!
