Hi, does anyone know how long these take to arrive? There is G availability on a flight I'd like to book, but would rather book it on the new Virgin card than my old MBNA one to get the double points for bookings direct with Virgin. I applied on Sunday and got an email on Monday saying it would be 7-10 days - but was wondering if in reality they often arrived quicker than this? thanks.

Mine took just over a week to arrive.

You could always put the G’s on hold for 72hrs and hope the cards arrive by then. If the cards don’t arrive then you need to decide if you’re prepared to gamble by letting the G’s go and hope they drop back into the pot, Then you can always put them on hold again. Or forgo the miles to bag the G’s. Me I’d put them on hold, then if the cards don’t arrive, book the G’s !

All depends on the route etc you are flying, some routes (New York for one) G’s pop up quite often.

Hi there, I just thought you may be interested in the problem I have with Virgin Atlantic credit cards.

Here goes,

Up until a couple of weeks ago I used to have a Virgin Atlantic white non-fee paying credit card for which I used for personal purchases and a Virgin Atlantic black credit card which was an annual-fee paying card for which I used for paying for work expenses, both of these cards were administered by MBNA on Virgin Atlantics behalf. Virgin Atlantic terminated this agreement and started their own credit cards. This meant that I had to reapply for the new Virgin Atlantic credit cards, I applied for the non-fee paying card for which as I said was for personal purchases but when I applied for the new annual-fee paying card I was rejected. When I queried this with Virgin they said I would have to wait 3 months before I could apply for the annual-fee paying card. At no time during the correspondence I received from Virgin Atlantic about the new cards and transfer of business from MBNA would I have to wait 3 months for my second card. I am now in a position where I cannot earn any air miles for my work expense. This seems to be a ridiculous situation having had both white and black credit cards for several years, I am now missing out on potentially thousands of air miles for the next 3 months. I wondered if any other V-flyer members have found themselves in a similar situation to me?

Hi Kevin,
That sounds a nightmare. Luckily haven't had any problems in that regard. Was approved straight away for the fee paying card, having previously had the black Amex. The card arrived today. I think I did read on here somewhere though that someone had been refused, even though they'd had the MBNA cards previously.

Quite a few people have reported having their application rejected by Virgin Money.

It’s worth checking your credit score: one V-Flyer who assumed theirs was pretty good found out the opposite was the case, thanks to a previously unknown issue with British Gas. Not their fault but it explained why their application was called in for investigation.

At the end of the day MBNA and Virgin Money are two completely different companies with their own completely different policies when it comes to deciding who they want as customers. And for whatever reason it seems you have failed to meet the requirements of whatever algorithm VM employs to determine the outcome of applications, even though MBNA were apparently happy.

That was me, and I’ve still had no reply from Virgin Money. I made the application on 20th June and I’m sick of chasing them as I have to wait over 15 minutes before speaking to someone who then gives me a timeframe that they don’t stick to. I frankly have no confidence that I’ll ever get a reply.
